Beautiful 19th century spa town hotel, with its own spa. Moderate sized room with a nice (if not large) bathroom. The views of the surrounding mountains are beautiful and the beds very comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially the manageress, who speaks good English. There is also a large, quiet garden, with plenty of furniture, and lovely views.

Margaux is the perfect host, the apartment was wonderful with every facility one needs. Breakfast was delicious and the views from the apartment's dedicated deck were fabulous. Very dog friendly and central to the wonderful scenery of the Auvergne and Cantal. We could not fault our stay and will return.

Location is outstanding, we came back here partly because of the views. The staff are always friendly, helpful and polite. We love the charcuterie there. Breakfast was lovely and a great selection. Our room was clean, a proper shower, not a bath and the bed was comfortable. Balcony had amazing views.

Dinner was excellent. Both quality and presentation. Young man who was there when we arrived and served us for dinner was very helpful, good personality and efficient this really made our stay a pleasure. In the bedroom the bed was comfortable and the bedding was good. Everything appeared clean.

Really great place. This is right at the bottom of a tracking route up to the "Puy de Sancy." Very close to the cosy village Mont-Dore. We had dinner twice and breakfast too, and it met/exceeded expectations. Big bonus for having a charging point for EV's right in front! I would come again.

We had been there before but only for a single night.

We had been there before but only for a single night. We love the town, the hotel, the atmosphere. We ate breakfast in the hotel which was incredible and ate out for other meals (not available in out hotel). Bit of a nuisance to search for other places to eat - the month was September and quite a few places were closed. The Cafe de Paris was a reliable stop gap.

Although not used during our stay there is a swimming pool on site. Also, good walking and a variety of sites above the town to offer that sort of holiday. For an outdoor holiday in all guises, it wd be worth a thorough exploration of the area. For our touring trip we needed a night only and the hotel where we stayed offered everything we needed.... and private parking!

It was very disappointing.

It was very disappointing. The family room was just a double room with two additional single beds. There was no floor space to move around. It made moving around in the room very difficult and very uncomfortable. If you stay here, bring hangers with you. There were just 3 hangers in the wardrobe for 4 of us! Ridiculous! No way of hanging damp ski clothes. When the radiator was on, it was just warm and we were unable to control it. We received a small bottle of water for all 4 to share! There were cobwebs above the mock fireplace! The spare pillows were used for the children’s extra beds leaving no spare pillows. There did not appear to be a smoke alarm in the room which was very disconcerting. We did eat at the hôtel one evening. The food and menu choices were good. The waiting staff were obviously extremely busy but smiled through. The portion sizes for thé children’s menu were very small for 10 year olds. We had to give them snacks soon after their meal. There were other restaurants within walking distance. However, it is advisable to book in advance. The pool was open from 9am to 10pm but much too small for the number of guests that wished to use it between 4pm and 6pm. The sauna was very small. It would fit 4 people comfortably. Unfortunately, it stopped working. Reception were made aware of this. They said someone would deal with it. Over an hour later it was still out of use. A jacuzzi was available to book for one hour at an extra charge of 68€. The hotel is approx 30 minutes from Ski resorts of Sancy and Super Besse. We enjoyed our stay in the region but will not be returning to this Mercure Hotel.

Great location for exploring the area and for walking (easy, relaxing or more strenuous). Plenty to do and see, including historical towns and villages, interesting walks, stunning scenery, nature reserves and sports. Plenty of nice cafes and restaurants in the area. The lake is very pretty and you can walk or cycle all the way around it.

We were looking for a nice place to stay during our trip...

We were looking for a nice place to stay during our trip from the south of France to The Netherlands. The hotel is clean and efficient, though overall somewhat dated. The staff was kind and helped us out. The nearby village provides with enough shops and restaurants as we had one afternoon and evening to cover. It looked like there were many outdoor activities going on (hiking, toboganning, etc.). Being there for one night, we did not participate so I cannot comment on those.

This is a small city, you can get everywhere on foot.

This is a small city, you can get everywhere on foot. Lots of restaurants and shops. Shop keepers and restaurant owners are not the friendliest, but this did not tarnish my enthusiasm. I absolutely recommend le Musée de la Toinette et la Grange de Julien.

Le Mont-Dore is a very picturesque town with all the facilities you could need. As well as the proximity to attractions in the area, there are good bars and restaurants along with a thermal spa where you can relax in the town.

La Bourboule was nice in the evening with the restaurant...

La Bourboule was nice in the evening with the restaurant lights on and the snow on the ground. Galapagos restaurant was nice and the food was good. The local bakers had nice cakes and coffee. A pleasant walk in the day and there is a shop that sells very nice chips (fries but bigger and better) and various other things like ribs, nuggets etc.
