We arrived late at night but the receptionist was so kind to leave the gate opened, helped us to find a parking spot and offered to help with our bags. So very kind! The room was clean, the bed comfortable. We appreciated nespresso machine in the room, but some spoons would be cool.

Everything , if you want to spoil your partner or just yourself this is the place. The gentleman who parked our car was extra charming and helpfull, all staff were great. Book the Restaurant early as One was closed during our stay meaning the other was full, great Restaurant right next door though.

Plenty to see for a short break.

Plenty to see for a short break. Make sure you get the train to the La Piscine de Roubaix - an amazing gallery. Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse is also excellent if you are interested in history, plus the Palais des Beaux Arts. Great restaurants within walking distance.

We only stayed in Calais as we had been travelling around...

We only stayed in Calais as we had been travelling around Europe and we wanted to stay near to the Euro tunnel on our return home. Calais itself was fine and it's only 15 minutes from the Euro tunnel. The main square initially seemed great as there were lots of places to eat and drink and we did have an enjoyable evening. The problem was that the noise from the bars on the square goes on until past 3am , so not ideal if you have to be up early . Then there's the noise of the market setting up from 6am. I imagine that would only be Saturdays though.

A really lovely city - which we have been to many times...

A really lovely city - which we have been to many times before. Well worth the visit. Most interesting to see the buildings which have mainly been rebuilt after near total destruction in WWI. Quite an amazing restoration.

Beautiful city easy to get to by train, convenient and 100% free (as of August 2025) bus network for the city and around. Many interesting and breathtaking places to visit - beaches, museums, memorials, tower roofs of the tourist info office and the lighthouse. Local specialties are quite tasty.

The breakfast was extra and billed separately, but I would have liked to have seen a refill of the croissants and the pain-au-chocolate in the breakfast as they were exceptional ! ( they ran out during our stay ).

Very elegant town with attractive residential neighbourhoods...

Very elegant town with attractive residential neighbourhoods, great beach, plenty of bars and restaurants but fairly compact. We had 2 nights but could have done more to visit places further away like Rouen. The promenade area will undergo a major redevelopment 2026-2030. We ar not golfers but understand this is a good place for golf.

We love Boulogne old town, a quiet little haven away from the busy main town. The main town has an abundance of shops and facilities with pretty much every supermarket you can think of and an incredibly useful Decathlon superstore.

We visited for the World Cyclocross racing, so wasn't there...

We visited for the World Cyclocross racing, so wasn't there to explore Lens itself. However we found a variety of bars and restaurants that were reasonably priced. We'd have visited Rhe Louvre, but it was closed on the day we could have gone (Friday). Great transport to Lille via train.

Worst host and room I have ever seen.

Worst host and room I have ever seen. They present everything beautifully, but on the inside it is downright filthy. Hair in the bed from previous visitors, dirty footprints on the stairs, clearly not vacuumed, mold everywhere. No form of ventilation possible, so even if you wanted to stay here, you actually can’t stay here because of your health. When we reported this to the host, we basically got the answer that we should clean it ourselves if we thought we could do it better. He also said that the lack of ventilation would not cause any harm. Additionally, they are not reachable by phone and do not respond to the emails sent via Booking, which also shows no willingness to cooperate in any way. DO NOT BOOK THIS ACCOMODATION!!

We visited for the Christmas market which was disappointing but were very impressed with Lille and the Christmassy vibe. Lovely shops, beautifully decorated. Many good restaurants to eat at with a variety of offerings.
