An amazing hotel isolated from civilization in the endless silence of the heart of the Pyrenees National Park on the French side, from which all rooms overlook the mighty cliffs of the Pyrenees Mountains and the amazing waterfalls. The hotel is a nature reserve in itself of stylish beauty, every detail of every picture was designed and adapted to receive a unique and luxurious look, the hotel was founded in 1845 and has been passed down for 7 generations among the family members and is praised with each generation. We were privileged to be the guests of one of the eight wonderful rooms in the hotel. Arriving at the hotel from the village of Gavarnie-Gèdre tells the whole story of how wonderful the hotel and its staff are. Over everything, as in a harmonious concert, triumphs a wonderful, kind, funny and special woman named Carolyn who gives the hotel its warm and special atmosphere and pays attention to every detail with a constant smile and kind eyes, a woman of many actions who turns out to be a skilled off-road driver and a wonderful bartender and especially a kind conversationalist. The dinner at the hotel is as perfect as the hotel. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared with delicacy and beauty that do not hint at the explosion of flavors that came later, a masterpiece and served to the table by Eric, a warm, funny and special man. The world must have been divided between those who were in this magical hotel and do not forget it and those who will come to it. Thank you for the wonderful fairy-tale hospitality and personal attention.

Our stay was far better than expected! Karine and Gilles were very welcoming with us! We were in 4 people, the room was spacious, the bathroom was big and new, beds were very comfortable and the food... amazing. We opted to have dinner in the auberge and it was the best decision we could've made! Home made food that felt like grandmas house, definitely something you don't usually get while travelling. It was everything we needed! Will definitely be back for the winter season next time we're in Europe!

We spent one night at this hotel and both found it was one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in large or small anywhere in the world. Truly exceptional. The service is top class. The restaurant was friendly and served excellent food. The room was beautifully appointed and completely clean. The staff were both efficient and friendly and found out within minutes whether the nearby road over the Col de Tourmalet was open when we had failed to find the information ourselves.

We had an amazing stay in Chateaux d'Orleix. I was travelling with my 93 year old mom and they went out of their way to help and make us comfortable. They even changed her room to a downstairs one to avoid the stairs for her. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast amazing and very fresh, the croissants are yummy. The facilities, both in the room and outside are great. Nice pool with enough chairs and parasols, barbecue area, games like darts and jeu de boules. Everything very clean and well-maintained. Location is a bit remote in a small village, so car is recommended to visit all the beauty in the surroundings like The Pyrenees, Lourdes, Tarbes and so on. We were very lucky to see all the 14 Juillet celebrations and to visit the concert of Andrea Bocelli in Lourdes. We had an amazing time and cherish the memories. Thank you all staff at Chateau d'Orleix for making our stay unforgettable.

The Santuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is the best sacred place for pilgrims in the world, for unity, prayer and healing. The Grotto of Massabielle where the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette, is incredibly serene. The whole atmosphere is very quiet, filled with peace and devotion. The architecture and the surroundings are beautifully maintained. Short walks nearby hotels, souvenirs, religious gift shops, restaurants are very accessible.

Amazing place to base yourself for time in the Pyrenees.

Amazing place to base yourself for time in the Pyrenees. We stayed for a week and could have stayed a few more days. Tons of hikes, waterfalls, water activities, and climbing within an hour's drive (but many places are much closer than that). My one piece of advice would be to make dinner reservations ahead of time or order your takeout early because most places fill up really fast and even the pizza places stopped taking orders early in the evening because they filled up so quickly! It's a great place though, and we really enjoyed our time there.

This little ski town truly has gorgeous views and is in a very beautiful natural setting. I wish we had been able to stay for more than just one night, but I’m glad we got a chance to go! Getting around is easy on foot. The town has lots of cafés and little shops. It also has a great outdoor gear store and a large shoe shop! When we were there a concert was being played and it was lovely to hear it from the outside of the structure where it was being played. It gave a very nice cozy feel to the experience.

There is a great food market on Saturday, I wish I could have stayed in the area for longer to justify buying more local goods from the artisans ( cheeses, meats, breads etc. Many local walks up into the hills around the town start from the centre , just make sure you bring your walking boots. Even the relatively short walk up to the Virgin Mary is worth it. And of course a dip in the thermal spa/ public baths is well worth it.

Very quiet this time of year( early to mid October) not many eateries open as between seasons. Seasons appear to be summer for walking and winter for skiing. Autumn for repairs. Couple of bars open and usual tourist shops. Good butchers and bakers and supermarket. Good base for walks around the area. Pretty town. Take picnics and drinks with you if walking as opening hours for cafes / restaurants limited in areas you may visit.

Argeles-Gazost is a good size town with a range of restaurants and shops plus a big market on Tuesdays (food & other goods). Away from the old town there are supermarkets and other shops. Our favourite place to eat dinner was Cafe-Hotel Les Fleurs. The local bakeries were all good but Patisserie Vignau Jean had the most impressive choice of cakes and tarts. Another find was the microbrewery "La brasserie du pays des gaves" who offer charcuterie boards alongside a range of beers. We made use of the local busses to access walks near Gavernie (seasonal service) and Cauterets for Lac de Gaube & Pont d'Espagna. On a future visit would love to explore the valley by bike along the greenway.

After touring through Portugal and Spain on motorcycles, we were made very welcome and able to park the bikes off road at the foot of the mountains. I don't think that there is an evening meal option (didn't ask!) so you may want to eat en route or be prepared to ride/drive to the nearest restaurant. Good breakfast (English Tea !).

Stunningly Beautiful being a Christian it was as if I was in Heaven, The highlight was being able to visit the Castle via Lift Access yes simply awesome. A must visit clean city, and friendly people simply awesome visit stayed 2 nights would have loved to have been able to make it 4 nights Attended two Masses and the veneration of the Body of Christ in which we witnessed the amazing display of the less mobile being wheeled in the attend the Ceremony each with there own carer. Getting around Lourdes was easy no steps to encounter such as Paris and as I said to have Lift Access to one of the most stunning Castle in the world was one to cherish for a lifetime. We had breakfast and a main meal at the Hotel du Chateau Fort and again the Motel and staff were simply Magnificent. We were disappointed in that we were unable to stay Longer. My Message to everyone Lourdes is a must see destination give yourselves at least 3 to four days for the visit and say hi to the team at Hotel du Chateau Fort.

The city has much culture and is reknowned fir its sport including rugby and especially fencing at Amicale Tarbes Escrime. Close to Lourdes, the Pyrenees and with easy access via Tarbes airport.
