A nice little town with a small grassed area on front of cafes and bars giving it a spacious feel. Many restaurants to choose from as well as local amenity shops. Cinema in the centre. Parking along the roadside free in many places. Pleasant to walk around the many small winding streets. Train station in town too. Niort is about 50 mins drive so nice to go into but better to drive away from the busyness of a tourist area and stay in Niort.

The bed was basically a hard plank of wood.

The bed was basically a hard plank of wood. Solid like a rock. There was sprays or dirt maybe body fluids stained on the walls and dirty shower. Main room Floor was a wet room type ideal to spray down after use. Walls were rough finish like sand paper. I know it’s ibis budget. But!!!!! Shocking. Honestly felt like a prison

The historical parts of the town are exceptionally...

The historical parts of the town are exceptionally interesting and unspoilt, with great views over the surrounding area. There are food shops, bars and restaurants within the area or close by in the more modern parts. Navigating was a little tricky but car parking was easy. Other interesting towns and sites are within easy reach.

Thouars, the old town section is beautiful, some great restaurants, Café des Arts, for one, really good, Walking around the town is easy, good for accessing the local area outside. Quite, less traffic and easy to get around.

Fabulous place to stay for a few nights. very quiet village with plenty of restaurants and cafes. if you love walking, plenty of trails to follow and a ride in one of the punts through the Coulon glades of the Marais Poitevin in what they call their "embarcaderes" is an absolute must! once visited, never forgotten!

We had travelled from South West France and were heading to St Malo we identified this hotel as a good place for a 2 day stop over and it was excellent we ate in the hotel both nights the food was of a very high standard as was the choice of wine, we had a very relaxing stay with friendly and efficient staff. If you play golf then this hotel which is situated on a lovely Golf course would be ideal, we dont play golf but found it very relacing and extremely comfortable.

We travelled to Niort for the Jazz festival.

We travelled to Niort for the Jazz festival. We had a super evening with great music in the warm summer weather. Before that we had dinner at Le comptoir du Siam, a great Thai restaurant in the centre of Niort. Niort has lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. There is a large CGR cinema which often has VO films (Version Originale), vital for English speakers whose French isn't fluent. There is a large pedestrian area in the centre which makes it easy to wander around. I recommend a visit!

Parthenay is a much underestimated destination.

Parthenay is a much underestimated destination. It is distinctively French in everyway and there are very few allowances made to languages other than French. However, it remains its French identity entirely and has not succumbed to over commercialization. The medieval sector is totally unspoilt and authentic .Parthenay is very much comparable to York in England in miniature or Guimaràes in Portugal.

This is a quiet market town in a spectacular spot.

This is a quiet market town in a spectacular spot. It makes a good base for anyone seeking the high spots of the Loire from a much less busy base. Saumur and Tours are not far away but this is an authentic French town. We'd recommend the Cafe des Arts for a fun French bar.

Beautiful small town on the Marais, called the Green Venice (in French). Lovely waterside with cafes and shops on a network of small waterways with boats for hire. A number of attractive places to eat, nice local market and shops with local crafts and produce.
