The evening receptionist (perhaps owner?) recommended a local restaurant to us and made the reservation for us and the restaurant was excellent. It was Chez Germaine at Geronce. We had a very enjoyable stay at Le Commerce and our little dog was welcomed too and a water-bowl provided for her.

The location was also excellent, being only a short walking distance from the town centre. All in all an excellent stay, albeit unfortunately only for one night. We can recommend, without hesitation.

“Le gîte du Poisson Roy” is a real gem in the heart of a beautiful medieval town of Navarrenx. The hosts are wonderful, welcoming and helpful with many useful tips for activities and excursions. The house itself is spacious, very clean and offers all the amenities for a successful and memorable stay (comfortable beds, really well-equipped kitchen and living-room, a bathroom with great shower, an extra WC, etc.)! One can perfectly relax in the comfortable chairs on the large patio after visiting the stunning areas of the Béarn and the Pyrenées. We definitely had a brilliant week at the gîte and strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to explore this region and also have a relaxing time in a tranquil town.

Owners and Staffs are so friendly and kind. The dinner and breakfast were beyond my expectation, it was beautiful and delicious.
Also the garden was nice.
It was a rainy day but the owner suggested me to walk another way because the GR route might be very muddy.

We didn’t have much time but we loved the ambiance of the place. The people we met were so helpful and kind.
We eat in ‘Au Repaire’ and thoroughly enjoyed the food which was served by a lovely girl. The manager was also most helpful.
We had a drink in ‘Le Chalet’ which again was served by a young guy who was so pleasant & gave his time to show us the way to our restaurant.
We also met a girl on her way to the baths who took time to show us the way to a restaurant, she took out her phone and walked with us.
This is hospitality and hopefully we will return. I have already told many friends who will certainly visit Salies-de -Béarn .

We chose Orthez because it is halfway between Pau and Bayonne and also handy for visiting Salies-le-Bearn. It's a nice, characterful old town with just enough shops, cafés and restaurants for a nice stay. There are two lakes nearby and a good cycle-path allows safe, easy access to the surrounding area by bike. The recommended restaurant, La Maison de l'Horloge was perfect.

The town itself is like a lot of small French towns, working to remain attractive and alive. I was only there for two nights, but it was enough to go to a lively dance (with ~250 people present) in the Foyer Municipal and have a nice bike ride on Sunday. There is a convenient grocery store, pizza place and a chocolate specialty shop. If you are passing through the area and prefer not to stay in a larger city, and have your bike, this is a good place.

Salies de Bearn was lovely, architecture was gorgeous and the Christmas decorations around town were lovely. Unfortunately there was not much open on 24 and 25 December, something that was very disappointing as a tourist. So sanwiches and wine for 2 nights running was not what we had expected or were looking for. I think many towns don't think about people who are away from home and would like a family Xmas with others in different cultures and towns..

It was good value for money.
It was good value for money. Remember it's not a Hotel so don't have Hotel expectations. It's super clean and the rooms are lovely and big. The Hostess is kind and couldn't be more helpful. I wish I'd had more time to use the swimming pool especially as the weather was so hot!

When I return I will bring some form of air conditioning (Dyson type). No hairdryer was a surprise. Take out the old slippery bath a replace it with an Italian non slip shower unit.
Leave simple instructions for all equipment and provide tv in English.
Other than these moans, it was the perfect home from home for us and our little dog. The quality of the equipment was good and the bed was first class!
