Unique location, just outside the center of Helsinki, at the edge of a small peninsula that juts out into a maze of water and forested islands, this hotel manages to balance tranquility, with gastronomy, architecture and nature. I’ve stayed in many many hotels, but nothing like this - it may have been one of the best allround experiences ever. The building is well-preserved 70s architecture; long lines, oak wood and brushed concrete slabs. Rooms are spacious and bright and were updated quite recently. Bathrooms are clean and well-organized; excellent water pressure. Spotless maintenance. Service is professional and kind; open to requests and suggestions. There’s a decently-sized indoor pool, suitable for those wanting to get some laps in at the start of the day. A pier juts out into the water, allowing a courtside seat for summery sunsets. I didn’t use the sauna but, hey, this is Finland, I’m sure it will be on par. They host weddings in a dedicated space next to the restaurant, but the layout is such that there is actually no noise coming from that at all. Parking is amply available and there is a convenient connections to public transport nearby (public bikes for 10 euros per week and a subway station at 10 minutes walking. Time to central Helsinki is probably 20-25 mins. The natural surroundings are unforgettable; spruces dot the coastline, mossy big boulders here and there, as if dropped by giants. Terns and cormorants patrolling the shallows. If your aim is to relax with quiet and lovely views, come here. Lastly the food: the hotel harbours a professional restaurant, Platz, which serves a buffet breakfast featuring hot and cold options, various juices and a large terrace. They also offer very good dining in the late afternoon and evenings; properly delicious local menu options, combined with super friendly service. For those seeking gluten-free, this restaurant has no issues with that at all.

Everything - The guys running this place are great. We had to leave early morning to catch a flight before official breakfast time. We were greated with a huge haul of lovely breakfast stuff and sandwiches the night before for our journey. We had an amazing meal that evening - Punjab curry, one spicy and one creamy, my daughter had an amazing steak with chips (loads of them 👌) Would definitely stay here again.

Visiting Helsinki before Christmas 2025 was an amazing experience. The city is full of beautiful lights and festive atmosphere :) There were too many tourists of course ;) too crowded places like Old Market Hall with it's famous Lohikeito soup, but anyway it was great to visit! We'd also visited Art Museum Ateneum, which I can recommend, quite compact (up 2 h), but great selection of works:)

Vantaa was a good place to stay out of Helsinki with much reasonable prices. The aviation museum is a must see and spent half a day there. The mall near the hotel was very good and spent a whole day there. We used Vantaa as a break between trips but would spend more time in future.

Go south to see the magnificent sea, there is a magnificent 20 km Rantaraitti road by the sea. You can walk, run and cycle there. The road is illuminated and really safe to move around, because the richest residents of Finland live next to the road. For example, the directors of listed companies with their families and residents of embassies. I have also lived there myself. Helsinki felt very friendly and very safe to walk around. We loved pretty much everything about the city including the beautiful city park. We even enjoyed a dip in the Baltic sea when visiting one of the many saunas. Our only let down, was the Zoo. I thought it was dated and in need of some TLC. We also didn't see many animals in a lot of the enclosures. Overall though, Helsinki is definitely a 10/10 City.

Our primary reason for Vantaa was our need to be at the airport very early. The public transport runs super efficiently. We bussed into central Helsinki using 2 routes and both were excellent. Bus stops literally outside the apartment block. The train station is a brisk 10 minute walk away and again super service for Helsinki, the airport or connections to wider Finland.. Locally there's a a couple big supermarkets too.

The Helsinki metro runs through Espoo, and bus services are also very good. Tapiola is the cultural centre of Espoo, e.g. theatre, music. Also EMMA Museum of Modern Art. Sello in Leppävaara and Iso Omena in Matinkylä are great shopping centres.

The following bars were all great finds! Kaisla, Tommy Knockers, Kitty's, Ateljee Roof Bar, Juttutupa. The Rock Church is well worth a visit (temppeliaukio church). Suomenlinna Island and the sea fortress was a very interesting visit.

At this time of year, late April, some of the tourist options dont operate as you might expect aka Hop on/off bus isnt that until into May, (convenient Tourist information at Senate Square in the City Centre. )Olympic Museum may be of interest but wont take that long to look round. Seems if you want the Salmon Soup you had better think about that early on a cold day - initially looks expensive but the pictures show large chunks of fish. Lake Tuulusa can be reached by bus from Kervo rail station - had as short stay there. Harbour boat trip was chilly so went inside after halfhour.

We stayed in Espoo for one night,then stayed four in Helsinki. It was the best way of enjoying the snow (being Irish it is a novelty )and enjoying the peaceful forest surrounding the hotel. It was a great start to our christmas break before going into the city. It was magical and I did a morning hike around the grounds of the hotel. My sons and I loved it.
