This was the main aim of the trip. The log cabin was exceptional and very well equipped, warm, comfortable and a pleasant experience. The 'short' walk to the main hotel for breakfast etc on occasions did not feel that short! The breakfast buffet was good and covered all dietary requirements The Husky and Reindeer trips were exactly as expected and worth every penny The bus to the Market works well for a change of scene Reception staff were very helpful in changing transfers as we changed our return travel plans

It was the most authentic and intertwined with nature place I have ever stayed. It was like Heidi's home and my wife, our son and I lived the winter to the fullest. We even saw a little bit of the northern lights. My son and I played on the frozen lake, which was just next to our door, and every moment was a fortune for me. Although the outside was freezing, inside was warm well (even toilet), don't worry about it. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating such wonderful memories with my son.

Hotel is a combination of the modern and historical buildings, very stylish, comfortable and visitor friendly. Our room was spacious, clean and bright, decorated tastefully. Not a big city, but the city centre is compact, everything...

Not a big city, but the city centre is compact, everything can be found within walking distances. All the necessary services, a shopping centre, train station, airport and other services. Also a very nice beach outside the city centre. Would need more accommodation and for fair prices, right now not enough capacity and hotels are quite expensive.

The city is nestled amidst stunning natural beauty, with forests and lakes. It's perfectly organized for skiers, with bus stops, parking lots, hotels, and restaurants located very close to the ski lifts. Public transportation is excellent, with ski buses running hourly and always on time.

We booked a guide that we recommend. She took us on an interesting tour about war history in the area, especially the Salpa line. The relationship to Russia and Germany are complicated and interesting. She also showed us a pretty rapid and provided a nice picknick with Finnish snacks. It’s a lovely seaside resort.

It’s a lovely seaside resort. Nice walks and VERY good activities for kids. However the restaurants in Kalajoki Port are very limited and after 3 days you will have tried them all. They are “OK” but to be honest our best Finnish meal was at Helsinki airport. I think there’s a real opportunity for a restaurant serving “local” food. The local supermarket does hot food that’s very good value if you are on a budget.

Great place for winter activities and relaxing in a scenic fell & forest setting. Accommodation available from a hilltop hotel to housing options to varied taste & budget, even with great views and next to slopes or skiing/trekking tracks. Some nice options for eating out as well but not a place for party sharks. Local grocery stores small with limited options, more selection 30-45 min drive away. Car is a necessity when not staying in a hotel. If skiing is not enough try e-fatbike or a husky safari.

We stayed there 4 nights.

We stayed there 4 nights. It was a good location for days trips. The room was so quiet. We had number 7 on the end,so we enjoyed large windows looking out to beautiful flower fields and a patio. Breakfast was very good. Many choices. The bird educational room was beyond amazing. I would recommend this place for an off the beaten path bit of paradise.

A small town where you can reach everything on foot.Winter is not the best time for visitors.Museums are closed and streets are empty.The old part with lovely wooden houses is worth seeing at any time of the year.Local people are very friendly.

Ruka it's a small ski village where you have all you need for your winter holidays. Plenty of ski resort with efficient lifts. gondolas and other facilities. The center has all you need for a nice stay: shops, cafes, restaurant, ski schools, ski rentals and all the rest you need. With a short trip by car you can reach other ski areas and as well other winter activities such as ice-karting, snowmobile tours, reindeer feeding, reindeer sleigh tours, husky sleigh tours. Great for the pro and the novice skiers. Prices are on the high side (but's high season, you should expect that, isn't it?).

It's been a long time since my previous visit.

It's been a long time since my previous visit. Excellent pizza at 'Kotipizza' franchise! And a lovely lunch at Ravintola Talonpöytä. But all the shops and 'outlets' were overpriced and the shops overall were a big dissappointment. Better to concentrate on food and nature!
