The location is excellent. The room was a good size and it was clean. We only stayed for one night and it was perfect. The ladies at reception were very helpful and one gal even drove with my husband to show him where the indoor parking was. Gracias!

Algeciras has some beautiful parts, in the old city the Moorish architecture is really quite something. There are some rougher parts sure, as with any large port town. But I found it safe, the people friendly and the food was great, especially El Taller restaurant. Nearby beach Playa el Rinconcillo was fine. But Algeciras isn't like some beautiful Mediterranean coasted resort destination, it's a fairly gritty Spanish port with some beautiful architecture and passable beaches, cheap and cheerful with easy access to TARIFA where you can get a ferry to Tangiers and visit nearby roman ruins or visit very nearby Gibraltar.

I my opinion a definition of a hidden jam!

I my opinion a definition of a hidden jam! It's located only 40 minutes from Jerez de la Frontera and has such a unique look to it, there is trail all around the town that offers unique and breathtaking views of the city. The old town itself is very charming and lively with good restaurants and small shops selling local wine, olive oil and cheese.

Medina Sidonia is a beautiful town and very Spanish.

Medina Sidonia is a beautiful town and very Spanish. There aren’t many foreign tourists and the bars, restaurants and shops are all Spanish - which we found great. People were welcoming and kind to us. The town is very pretty and small but well equipped with all that we needed. We traveled by bus and did not have a car - this meant we generally stayed in the town and relaxed.

This is a beautiful Spanish village and typically, it is built into the hills of Andalusia, so the streets are very steep. This didn't impact on our holiday but is merely a warning if you have mobility issues. We stayed early September and the bars/restaurants didn't open every night, some were only open at weekends. They typically opened about 8pm until midnight, but all times and days varied. The local people were lovely, they were celebrating a festival the first few days which we enjoyed. This is a lovely place to visit if you want a quiet, relaxing time. We used it as a base to visit the cities and towns in the west of Andalusia, so managed to get to Seville, Cadiz, Ronda, Jerez de la Frontera all within 1-2 hours.

This area of Spain is just beautiful if you can travel the backroads. The landscape changes in amazing ways & it’s never boring. Spring is magnificent with the wildflowers and green. The storks are in their nests tending their young. Hardly anyone is on the back roads. A real treat and food for the soul.

It is a great place to get ferries to Morocco or to get the shuttle to Tarifa to do the same. I have been before and found it to be a pleasant small town with a good patisserie/bakery that had Moroccan foods (briouwats, mini pastilla, etc). The reason for the 'average' rating of the town stems from the fact that the place I booked was unhelpful and would not allow me to access the property at midnight even though I had paid in advance. As a result I was stranded and had to wander about at night, sleep on a too short stone bench and cat nap until the FRS ticket offices opened. Algeciras is reasonably easy to navigate on foot. There are some cafés by the central market that open early for the traders. There is also a Carrefour express in the area between the train Station and the port with a full selection of goods. I cannot rate 'Conv3nient R00ms - F3rry, Tr@in & Bus $tation' as I was not allowed entry to the property at midnight (late trains, missed connections) having paid for in advance my room. Unfortunately the proprietor was not helpful and I was left wandering the streets all night as not other hostals were open. A cold night with a very short stone bench! (Perhaps this is a rating?) I would avoid this place on my next visit and look for a better rated (more expensive hostal/hotel. I would love to return yet again to Algeciras under better conditions and have an actual 'holiday there, rather than using it merely as a travel interchange. The town looks lovely and no doubt has things to offer away from the mildly salubrious Tran Station/Port area.

The Gothic church was for me the most beautiful church I've seen up until now. Also went to El Castillo, Arco de Belen, Monasterio de Maria Jose, El de Arriba, and Monasterio San Cristobal, where nuns from the monasteries will sell you traditional cakes from Medina behind a gate or a rotating door where there's no contact. Arco de la Pastora, El Saladero, Mueso Etnologico, The Cloacas (Roman Sewere), Museo Arquiologico...basically every tourist sight available—church, monastery, etc.—and we was well worth it. Places we went to eat were our hotel restaurant Cabeza de Toro, Hotel Medina Sidonia, Restaurante El Castillo, and El Bar Cadiz. Do have to mention that this town has a lot, and I mean a lot of hills and curious little winding streets; if you have difficulty walking for long distances and hills, you might struggle. Make sure to take comfortable footwear and a coat for those chilly nights.
