My third stay here and it is still perfect for cyclists and hikers and for groups and families. Arriving wet and muddy, the welcome is warm. Refreshed by a warm shower and coffee and cake in the restaurant. Dinner, usually a buffet, was an Easter special and very good value. Breakfast buffet was excellent. There are laundry facilities and a bike workshop if needed and plenty of space to relax and recover from the day's exertions.

It’s a cozy and smart hotel where everything feels thoughtfully designed. The directions were clear and made everything incredibly easy from the start. The rooms are clean, well-equipped, and offered more than we expected. The sauna area is beautifully decorated and fully prepared for you to relax and enjoy— we absolutely loved it. In the morning, we were pleasantly surprised to find fresh croissants and excellent coffee in the lobby, offered as a compliment. The lobby itself is warm and inviting, with a large fireplace and a wonderful selection of books. The entire building is filled with art, creating a truly inspiring and welcoming atmosphere. Thank you for thinking of everything and making us feel so comfortable. A big round of applause for such innovative initiatives.

Romantic Region of Castles and Christmas Markets

Home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Christmas markets, Bavaria is the German region touching Lake Constance and the Austrian and Czech borders. Although evoking images of beer, lederhosen and fairytale castles, it’s much, much more than that.

Famous for Oktoberfest, its capital Munich has impressive architecture lining squares and parks, and several luxury Bavaria hotels on Booking.com. To the north, Nuremberg is a city of 2 halves: a picture-postcard old town and grandiose Nazi rally grounds housing a sensitive museum.

With a stately palace and gardens, Erlangen is on the Regnitz River which continues to beautiful Bamberg where one of the half-timbered buildings hovers above the flowing river. Bayreuth is well-known for opera performances of Wagner, a former resident, while Regensburg on the Danube River has a beautiful, medieval centre.

Unsurprisingly, most romantic Bavaria hotels are on the Romantic Road between Würzburg, with its hilltop castle, and Füssen in the foothills of the Alps. The Finish Sauna is one of the most beautiful I have seen: spacious, so big, I love the huge window to one side. Moreover, we loved the entertaining activities. We came for the Christmas market and it was nice, we enjoyed the short walk from our hotel. We loved the assortment of food options, that we were able to choose from and delivery was easy. We took an Uber to the mall and to places to eat and they were clean an easy to get.

Regensburg is delightful and affordable. I visited 26-28th December, so it was cold. The views around the river are sensational. Even better if a busker is playing music on the bridge. Lots of restaurants and pubs. Great photos opportunities

We visited Würzburg for a short two-day trip just before the New Year, exploring the Würzburg Residence, the old town, and Marienberg Fortress. In the evenings, the old streets and the bridges over the Main River were beautifully illuminated and impressed us even more than the lavish interiors of the Residence. The panoramic views from the high banks of the Main overlooking the historic old town are truly spectacular. With its rich history and atmosphere, Würzburg feels like a true pearl of Franconia and clearly deserves its popularity with visitors.

The whole city is beautiful with so much history! We really loved the Rathaus square and the fountains and the Fuggerei annd the Dom. Our Hotel Ost am Ko was in the perfect location for exploring and was a real gem of a hotel! Highly recommend visiting Augsburg- has so much to see and experience. Momo’s in the Bahnhofstraße Strasse has the best Doner I have ever had!

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is an amazing historic Town. The charm extends to all of their buildings which many were historically restored after WWII. Wondering the streets is an adventure looking at all the beautiful buildings. The christmas market is quaint and charming and so much fun. We spent three days there and could have easily stayed longer.

Our highlight was a visit to Schloss Seehof which we reached by bus, using the Bamberg card. Really informative guided tour of the restored interior of the castle and the gardens including an impressive water cascade were impressive.

This is one of those towns you need to keep coming back to.

This is one of those towns you need to keep coming back to. We love GP for a weekend getaway. We always ride the train in and get around by foot (or bus) after we're there. Go in every season...there's always something wonderful to experience.

Füssen is not a typical mountain town with local atmosphere.

Füssen is not a typical mountain town with local atmosphere. It is a stop-over for most travelers to visit the famous castles pictures in movies. Hundreds of international travelers pour off the train and proceed directly to the buses to visit the castles. Therefore, the feeling in the town is "weird." // Yes, it's a tourist town, but not upscale or posh. The restaurants are overly-priced. I saw numerous street people shuffling thru the streets and going thru the trash cans! // But, the museum in St. Mang monastery was one of the finest museums I've ever visited. // So, the mountains, museums, brilliant sunshine, Old Town architecture were well-worth a visit. However, the surreal lack of local pride and flair in the town was off-putting.

I was surprised at how much there was to see and do in this...

I was surprised at how much there was to see and do in this charming medieval town. We stayed for 4 nights which felt just right for visiting the castle, the Virgin Mary pilgrimage church, taking an afternoon boat ride on the Crystal ship, visiting the glass museum, and walking along the cobblestone streets to visit shops, art galleries, cafes, and bars. If we had more time I would have probably used the spot as a jumping off point for other local towns. We did a lot of walking to see the gorgeous views of the 3 rivers. Lots of history in this town - it was an unexpected gem.
