Still there are affordable hotels, variety of restaurants and nice places to visit. Since it is an ancient city it is also good for historical and cultural visits.

The city is too touristy, the old city center is a real tourist trap. You can't walk the streets without someone inviting you to see his gallery and buy their stuff. Also Plovdiv is a big modern city, which mean huge traffic jams. I'd recommend visiting Veliko Tarnovo, it's cheaper, has less parking problems, less touristy and offers amazing views.

Plovdiv is an amazing city!
Plovdiv is an amazing city!! Everyone is encouraged to chill and enjoy their time. There are many parks and plazas to sit and relax. If you're looking for an adventure, there are six large hills to climb to get a breathtaking view of the city. The free walking tours, given twice-daily at 11:00 and 18:00 every day of the year, are wonderful to get to know the city's history as well as some tips from locals on what to see and where to go in your free time. I hope to return to this gorgeous city one day!

We visited Plovdiv in a weekend and it was just perfect. We went hiking, eating, walking in to the park, seeing the dancing fountain, on every hill you have another view it was just magnificent. The old streets are very cozy to walk, the new Plovdiv is also noce to walk at evening. The town center with terrace is cozy in the evening and full of people .

Truthfully, Plovdiv is a great day trip destination but it is spoilt by unhelpful taxi drivers (dropping you in the wrong place), supersilious waiters (who need reminding to return the right change WITH the bill) and tourist information staff lacking foresight (why not post in the window which places are closed?!). I spend ages there trying to second guess people, wandering around in circles and getting hot and bothered, needlessly. That said, I admired the spontaneous joy of children singing folk songs. I enjoyed engaging with most of the helpful staff in the old town. I am also aware that the place has great potential as a tourist destination. It needs to sort some of aforementioned glitches out though.

Plovdiv it's a beautiful city with nice people and wonderful sightseeing. It's a young city and it has everything you need to spend a great journey. It's also full of historical and art museum. It's a human-scale city with nice parks and amusements. I strongly recommend it.
