The hotel has been recently remodeled. It’s cozy, clean, and comfortable. Didn’t try gym nor breakfast, but everything I needed was of my satisfaction (excellent staff, good toiletries, fair prices at their bar, silence in the evening, very good wifi). The location is perfect! Steps away from the main bus and train station and very close to the main shops. They availed some sound blocking ear buds but they weren’t necessary really. Maybe the construction is noisy during daytime only, when I was not in the room.

We didn't have time to visit the museums, this hotel gave us enough information about the country. Very responsive staff and we were helped both at check-in and check-out. what can anyone expect from a great hotel? perfect location? spacious rooms? perfect maintenance? fluffy clean towels? beautiful modern, yet cozzy, room design? great bed? all these are checked, at the highest level possible, topped with the friendliest, attentive, most professional staff possible, and a beautiful cafe'/restaurant at the lobby. we were personally greeted and received on check-in by Efi, probably the most charming and professional front desk person we came across. I stayed at hundreds of hotels across the globe, and this is probably my most favorite one. simply perfect.

Perhaps because it's a large European city, I couldn't feel...

Perhaps because it's a large European city, I couldn't feel a sense of belonging to the city or to Belgium here. Connecting with Belgian culture and getting an idea of the local customs was difficult due to the demographic mix. Although the Gothic architecture is ideal for cultural events, I didn't feel safe outside the tourist areas of the city. I think the close proximity of tourist areas and neighborhoods also contributed to this.

It’s just a big city, kind of gritty and a big melting pot of all types of people and languages. Didn’t feel especially Belgian. Way, way too many people to enjoy the Christmas markets, which felt more like a carnival than a Christmas market, with hip hop music playing throughout. The chocolate is indeed delicious. I would not say the same for the Belgian fries or the waffles- pretty basic at most of the places we ate at.

Brussels is for two days most, during Christmas period.

Brussels is for two days most, during Christmas period. Spend the rest of the days to visit Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp or any other place of your choice. Otherwise, it's full of rude people that see only the phone screens while walking... Magrite museum was good, Frites Atelier was better. Belgian beers are boring, but that's just me.
