Boasting open-air natural spring baths that look out to the surrounding mountains, Asaya provides chic Japanese accommodation that displays flower arrangements throughout. A bus stop is located right in front of the property, and shuttle buses are available from Utsunomiya Train Station, an hour away, at an additional fee. Luxurious facilities. We chose the traditional rooms with a private onsen, and it was a truly immersive cultural experience. Stepping out onto the terrace at night in November and soaking in the onsen while listening to the river is something that will stay with us forever. The buffet-style dinner and breakfast were outstanding in both quality and variety. The staff were extremely professional, efficient, friendly, and attentive—fully in line with Japan’s high standards, and genuinely impressive.

Lovely Ryokan with very nice private Onsens, both indoor and outdoor. The building is a bit old but the staff is very welcoming and accommodating and the food served is absolutely delicious! They were able to accommodate our 1 person not eating meat since we let them know in advance and prepared one of the best dinners we've had in Japan!
The room had a nice view of the lake. The onsen is small but nicely kept, and the outdoor pool was great! The food is delicious and made with local ingredients. The staff was always very helpful and friendly.
The property is in a beautiful location right beside lake Chuzenji. The rooms are big and all have a lake view. The property has its own Onsen spa both indoor and outdoor with separate spas for male and female guests. Amazing!
The Onsen hot baths were great - indoors and outdoor options. Rooms large and quiet, staff helpful, lovely chilled common space. There was a small traditional bar/restaurant five minute walk away run by an old couple. No English but food was good and e we all muddled along
The facilities - onsen and library. The little resting area outside the onsen was also nice. Complimentary drinks and snacks. The library had a good selection of novels and mangas and pods for reading. The onsen was good - indoor and outdoor. Good ventilation in the indoor onsen as I often get lightheaded in other onsens due to bad ventilation. The outdoor onsen was cool. The dormitory was more spacious than expected.
Beautiful onsen with indoor/outdoor seperate male/female facilities, a lounge that makes you feel like you’re in the trees, kitchen and laundry facilities. We had a double and a family Japanese style room all were clean and functional. Some confusion initially about my 4 year old who was only free if she shared a bed. There is a supermarket lion dior a 600m walk, that has a good range of groceries
Nice room layout. Big onsen pool (indoor & outdoor). Room balcony. Shuttle bus in the morning. Friendly & efficient staff
This was a gem of a hostel! A beautiful place to relax after a busy few days in Tokyo. The lounge area is lovely, overlooking the trees and with hammocks on the deck outside which was a great place to read a book with a beer. The onsen was so relaxing - there was one indoor pool and one outdoor pool (which feels like it’s in the woods!) so it wasn’t massive but it didn’t get busy while I was there. It was such a cool experience to be in the outdoor onsen at night too.
