Unbelievably stunning location, views across the unspoilt bush landscape from rooms and terraces are unbeatable. Great food, and wonderful dining room / terrace / lounge meant meals were a relaxed delight. Extremely welcoming and engaging staff and hosts. The two dawn game walks we did are now right up there in the highlights of my life.

The communication with the host Anika und her father Johan was perfect from the beginning. Within our arrival to the gate of the Private Reserve Johan was there to open for us. It was a bit like a scene from Jurassic Park movie (minus the Dinos): we drove through the gate and before our eyes opened a landscape with rolling green meadows, interspersed with large acacia and Mopane trees, teeming with free roaming wildlife such as Impala, Kudu, Eland, Zebra, Warthog, Bushbuck, even Giraffes and countless bird species. We were speechless. The room we booked turned out to be an entire 2 story house with full fledged kitchen, several bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a large living room and a very nice patio with sun lounges. Wildlife visits the terrace frequently and it is very safe to watch them. During a game drive the first day we got stuck with our car! Anika and Johan answered our call for assistance and Willy provided instant help pulling us out using his Landrover working horse. Willy invited us for a game drive the next day and shared his vast knowledge about the hidden gems of the Reserve. As a surprise he stopped at a little river and cooked a typical South African Braai (barbeque) with Ribeye steak and incredibly flavored "boerwoers". Breakfast is freshly prepared every morning a few miles down the road at their restaurant "The Farmers Fork" and leaves nothing to wish for.

Surrounded by greenery, the Winterton Lodge @ Rose Cottage features a splash pool. Elegantly decorated, accommodation at Winterton includes a TV with satellite channels and a private bathroom.

We loved everything about the place. There are so many things in the house that make the property very practical. For example, there was an ice maker, coffee machine with flavors, soda stream, microwave, 2 fridges, washing machine and detergent, lunchboxes, plates, cutlery, smart tv, WiFi, puzzles, a dart board, braai area with everything you need, camp chairs and of course the star of the show - the Kolkol Hottub! I could keep counting forever

The accommodation and location were outstanding. The game animals were healthy and well and all around the house. It was perfection. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Sandra is a fantastic host.

Spion Kop Lodge is set on a 700 hectare farm, just 15 km north of Winterton. It borders the Spion Kop Nature Reserve and is situated close to historic battlefields.
