Pet-friendly hotels and homes in Lagunillas

We visited this wonderful little gem two years ago and decided to stop in on our way home to Canada this year. I am so glad we did.We stayed in a large suite that was well appointed and spotlessly clean. I almost forgot how wonderful this place is. The grounds are kept imacualate. Rooms are well appointed with all kinds of nice touches. Heated pool, secure parking. Last but most important is Paulina our hostess. She is the kindest warmest most helpful we have experienced anywhere. Her father stays onsite all night as security to let you in or out if needed. We will find an excuse to travel through Morelia if only to stay here again.

It’s a small property with only 3 or 4 rooms or family units, located 10 minutes walking from the ferry port that takes you to Janitzio island (10 minutes from Patzcuaro by colectivo or taxi). We had a double room with a private bathroom. There was hot water. Breakfast is not offered or included, but there is a wonderful organic restaurant “Tiendita Verde” just 2 minutes from the property, they offered amazing breakfasts! The place is run by a local family who are very, very kind. The hostess, Tania, is always ready to help and assist with any request (she does not speak English, but we got around very well with the automated translation app and Chat GPT). For example, we arrived for the Day of the Dead without having booked any tour for November 1st. She helped us organize one on the spot and introduced us to Gloria, a guide who, for 800 pesos per person, arranged an evening visit. From 6 p.m. until midnight, we had a private tour of the most interesting places where the Day of the Dead is celebrated, including 2 truly amazing cemeteries. The most important and precious thing, of course, is Tania’s warm and heartfelt attitude. We felt completely at home and always truly welcome, with the sense that we were genuinely cared for. So if you stay at this guesthouse, we highly recommend it. We also have to note a fair price during the Dia de Muertos festival which is very hard to find around such touristy place as Patzcuaro. Last but not least - don’t bother too much to go to Janitzio, it’s a tourist trap! There is so much more to do around! Just ask Tania.

The people who stay here are awesome. Laid back, super friendly. Staff are helpful and work around your schedule. I note that the management is upgrading things. Our cooktop didnt work, we commented and right away a new (brand new) one was installed. If you are lacking something, ask to see if they have one. Great bird watching and iguana watching right across the street on the hanging bridge. Lots of little stores down the street to get your basics
