It’s amazing they’re really in the jungle but still nearby where you wanna be. A good price for what you get. Washrooms are nice and clean. Everyone hangs out in the main shared area (restaurant area) and plays guitar and plays cards in the evening (but not too late, quiet hours are respected). During the rainy season, you can swim in the pools of the waterfall that is literally one second away from the lodge.

When we arrived, my friend was not feeling well so the owner managed to change the duration of the trek and suggest other activities. Also, she managed to extend the stay and we kept the same room (from 1 night to 4 nights). We were pleased with nice food and hospitality like delivering food or tea to our room! Our room was upgraded to the family room which was more accessible from the river. I highly recommend this place!

The place is very cosy, the rooms very clean, good value for money, but the most important and the most remarkable is DILAH. She is the nicest, kindest and most dedicated person we have met in Indonesia. If you have a couple of days or more, she will make your experience as rewarding as possible. She will get you all the food and fruit you want for breakfast, and even if you want to see crocodiles, she will wait with you for 3 or 4 hours until they show up! Hahaha I would definitely recommend her a million times. If you want to do a tour in Sumatra, I recommend you to talk to her and spend at least one day there. She deserves everything and more. Everything was perfect : the trek, the guest house, the restaurant (so good food) and the staff. Cooking staff, jungle guides, manager, driver, they are all very nice, funny and always happy to help. I truly loved everything about Mario Lakeside. The location is peaceful and beautiful, right by the lake — perfect for relaxing. The room was clean, cozy, and well-maintained. What made this place special is the heart behind it. The owner, Pak Ali, is a kind and inspiring person. He also runs a foundation for children with cleft lips in Sumatra — which made my stay feel even more meaningful. Upstairs, there’s a vegetarian café with delicious food. They grow some of their ingredients on-site (farm-to-table concept), and I was blown away by the haloumi sandwich – they even import the cheese from the UK! It’s not just a place to stay, it’s a place that stays with you. I’d definitely come back if I visit Toba again.
