Known as ‘La Perla del Sur’ (Pearl of the South) and the ‘Capital de Carnaval’, Encarnación is one of Paraguay’s biggest draws. Benefiting from an easily walkable city centre, you can take in main sights such as its scenic riverside promenade and beach. The country’s biggest Carnaval celebration takes place here in January and February, and the nearby Jesuit missions of Trinidad and Jesús can be found just under 30 km away.
The northwest of Paraguay is home to the wild plains of Gran Chaco, divided into the palm savannas of the Humid Chaco and the spiky forest of the Dry Chaco. It’s a superb place to spot wildlife, such as jaguars, howler monkeys and birds of prey.

It is just a perfect Hotel with perfect service and a good restaurant - it was the best Hotel during my journey through Argentina, Uruguay, Brasil and Paraguay.
Boasting a swimming pool. Asuncion Bay is only a 10-minute drive away. Wi-Fi is free. Gran Hotel del Paraguay has air-conditioned rooms with flat-screen cable TV and private bathrooms with amenities.

We are a retired, well travelled couple and have stayed in many places in many (mainly Northern Hemisphere countries over the past 40+ years. We have stayed in Castles and 5 star hotels but this hotel was definitely the classiest venue with its grandeur, history, culture, artefacts, decor and stories. It has many wonderful bright spacious areas inside and outside. We swam in the clean clear pool and sat in tree-shaded areas. Would like to have used the tennis court but it was too hot for me & I hadn't brought suitable shoes.
The breakfast was splendid with a variety of wonderful fresh juicy fruits, a buffet of hot and cold savoury and sweet items and omelettes cooked to order. A wide selection of delicious breada and cakes.
All the staff were so kind, courteous and extremely helpful.
Hard to believe that all this was available for USD $86 for 2 including breakfast!!
