Amazing resort that is really entwined with nature. Not sure how it isn't more well known considering the value for money you get and the social mission the owner is on to improve livelihoods for local people in nearby villages. Whoever designed this place really has an eye for detail to allow you to experience luxury while still being immersed in the natural forest. We stayed in the balcony room and still have this amazing memory of sitting on the balcony (which is also equipped with a lovely ceiling fan, table and traditional chairs) during a rain storm and seeing the mist roll through the valley while listening to the sounds of the forest awoken by the rain. It was magical. The rooms are very clean and well maintained and I didn't see any critters which was hard to believe considering how close to the forest you are. There is a private track leading to a peaceful swimming hole in the nearby river which we had all to ourselves. Just me mindful of leeches if it's been raining. In regards to the food, we ordered a traditional rice and curry that wasn't actually on the menu but it was delicious. If you're Lankan or love spice, maybe just ask for local-level hot otherwise they will serve it mild. The service overall is very kind and attentive, proud to see this in Sri Lanka. Next time we will stay in the private villas as they look stunning with their private pools along with mini rivers running adjacent to the room. The magnificent Arberdeen waterfall is also a short tuk tuk drive away. I was a little worried in one review saying the place smelled overwhelming of Naphthalene but I didn't smell anything so maybe they changed something.

Devika (the owner) was absolutely lovely. We would definitely recommend staying here. The view is spectacular. 15mins tuk tuk ride to Laxapana waterfall, which is amazing. Do walk to the bottom. We were the only ones there when we went and it was amazing. Be ready to walk up around 700 steps back. One hour to Gartmore waterfall with great views and the tuk tuk ride takes you through the tea valleys and offers a very scenic route. We asked Devika to cook our dinners and breakfasts ( stayed 3 nights) and it was all lovely . She also arranged all the tuk tuk rides which was fab and saved us a lot of hassle and haggle. She was always happy to help. Rooms are spacious and clean.

This hotel is located on a hill, maybe 50m higher and 300m removed from the main road. It is in a very peaceful and quiet location surrounded by nature but still in walking distance to the main road and restaurants etc. The building and rooms are new, very clean and spacious with modern electrical installations including a silent aircon and a good bathroom. The hotel was only recently opened, and not yet everything is 100% finished, but that is more than compensated by the helpfulness and eagerness of the very friendly staff. The breakfast was excellent. The hotel is associated with one of the bigger organizers of Rafting, canoeing, etc. called "Rafting team 39", which is located directly below on the main road. This allows for flexible and very easy logistics and guarantees fair conditions for activities organized by that company. The small access road to the hotel starts on the main road about 500m South-East from "Rafting team 39". In my case I got off the bus there and was driven up the hill.

Kithulvilla is a little oasis in the midst of the mountains. Laura and her staff takes good care of the guests at Kithulvilla and cooks great food. We were so happy to stay here, and the view from the nice, cool pool is just outstanding. Laura happily arranged a little snack and tea when we arrived, had planned White water rafting by request and booked a tuktuk for our onward journey from Kithulvilla. We almost felt at home!

This place is worth not just a detour but the whole trip to Sri Lanka. The road to get there from St Clair is a breathtaking ride through the tea plantations. The resort is beautifully designed and well kept. We received a free upgrade and our rooms had floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the jungle and a river valley down below. Every detail of the décor of the rooms is tastefully picked and the result is elegant without pretense. The food was interesting, good and fairly priced, and served on a beautiful deck with a vista. The staff was friendly and helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay and it will remain a high point in our two-week visit of Sri Lanka. Incidentally, it is a steal!
