This is a very special guesthouse, standing for 200 years. It has been very well maintained and refurbished. It has been stylishly decorated, while maintaining its original charm. Guests can use the lounge area that looks onto a small courtyard which is very tranquil and the perfect place to chill. It offers a lot more space than usually available in Japan, with modern facilities for shower. Special commendation to Oki who has been extremely welcoming and helpful from the start, and throughout my stay. Their breakfast are truly exceptional. The almond butter toast is the best I've ever tasted and having a small bowl of soup in the morning is so warming. It is located directly in the merchants quarter, and close to the bus stop. There are very few people, so it's amazing to walk down the historic street and soaking in the atmosphere of ancient Japan, in peace and quiet, especially in the evenings.

The property itself is well equipped and you just bring in your stuff and can stay there for a short break like your home. Having said that, depends on your requirement of "quiet", the property is adjoining to a main county road which means cars are passing through day and night, though not frequent. The owner is a nice gentleman and willing at all time to give you a helping hand in providing advices in the local community such as traveling, dining and sight seeing. To a traveler, a clean, comfort and safe place to stay is essential to release of uncertainty. The property and the owner do this well.

Our stay in Tamba-Sasayama was absolutely magical. The house itself was a masterpiece — traditional on the outside, yet elegant and modern inside. The highlight was definitely the bathroom: a stone bath that felt like a private spa carved into the heart of Japan. Sitting in warm water surrounded by smooth stone after exploring the old town was simply unforgettable. Tamba-Sasayama itself is an incredible hidden gem — full of beautifully preserved old houses, narrow streets, and deep history. Visiting the castle and the former Samurai residence gave us a real sense of Japan’s past. The whole town has a quiet, timeless atmosphere that makes you feel completely at peace. It was the perfect combination of culture, comfort, and authenticity. We would come back in a heartbeat.
