The moment I entered, a wave of nostalgic warmth from the Showa era filled my heart. Soft light filtered through the shoji screens, creating a serene atmosphere that instantly soothed my soul. In spring, the garden comes alive with blooming plum and cherry blossoms. Simply sitting on the veranda and watching the blossoms sway in the breeze could make the whole day slip by unnoticed. As night falls, the faint scent of tatami mats and the starlight unique to the countryside create a truly magical and peaceful time. Even brewing a simple cup of tea in the small, charming kitchen felt like a special ritual. Rather than offering modern conveniences or luxury, this place gives you the rare gift of letting your heart truly unwind. Staying in a such a beautifully preserved Kominka was a deeply rewarding experience. Peter and Masami are exceptional hosts, and their home is so cosy and endearing. The space is so relaxing and quiet, and I can’t wait to go back.

We stayed two nights at Nanten-En and everything was incredible. The location is super calm. You can enjoy silence and a nice walk around. The service was incredible, everyone was kind. The meals were beautifully prepared and delicious. I truly recommend it for the experience. I will make sure to go back during my next trip to Japan. Thank you so much !!

Our family of three stayed for 3 days at Udatsuya. We had read a lot of rave reviews about the house and the hostess Niho-san and wanted a special place to celebrate my milestone birthday. We had the most wonderful and memorable stay here. The house was a delightful mix of traditional old world Japanese charm with fully modern amenities especially the bathrooms, a small pretty Japanese garden and a resident cat. The futon beds were super comfy and so were the duvets. It was lovely walking on the tatami mats. The entire home was spic and span and neat. But what really made the difference was the absolutely amazing hospitality of the owner Niho-san, a very nice, soft spoken , kind, powerhouse of a lady. Her attention to detail , her cooking skills ( she made the most delicious chicken curry by watching YouTube just for us) and her genuine caring attitude for her guests were commendable. We had lots of luggage so she picked us up from the airport, dropped us off to the station. She did our laundry every day like she does for all her guests and what a pleasure it was to get our clothes back every evening neatly folded and clean. She made lovely breakfast for us and even had sandwiches ready for us when we arrived the first day. Highly recommend this place for the house and the hostess.

Katsuemon was one of the best places to stay at. The main building is around 200 years old and where we stayed is around 100 years old. It's a wonderful experience just to stay at such a "Kominka" (an old house), but it's well-maintained and very clean. The renovated toilet is a bidet one, while firewood is used to heat up the bath. Their Japanese garden is very beautiful. Both Bantou-san (male) and Okami-san (female) are very kind and friendly. Bantou-san came to pick us up and gave us a ride to the nearest station, Ichio station by car. We were worried if we could miss the last train for Ichio station, so we informed them in advance. Then they told us that they would come to pick us up at another station in that case. (We didn't miss the last train.) We were pretty late to check-in, but they both were very nice to us. It's very quiet and dark around there at night, so you should look up to the sky. You can enjoy the starry night! We had breakfast in the 200-year-old building and enjoyed chatting with them until we checked out. It was such a great time to stay there, and we will definitely stay there again in a different season!!!
