The rooms are amazing little cabins that are cozy warm in the winter and very well designed. The bath is deep and allows you to feel like you are bathing in nature. The food in the restaurant was incredible. They adapted the menu for me to vegetate it was among the best meals I’ve had in Japan. The onsen is awesome too with warm baths that look out over the river. Magical! The fact they have a mixed section is great. Swimming costumes provided.

The food was excellent. The hosts were wonderful. The place is perfect to relax and just not do much. Due to its european style, it all seems a bit ureal.

Beautiful ryokan in a lovely little town. Staff were wonderful and facilities excellent - very comfortable and romantic stay in a traditional experience. Had a great time soaking in the hot pools under the stars in the forested area at night. Special experience with the mixed outdoor bath with the waterful in front, very pretty and made many happy memories. Thanks so much!

One of our best place we have been in Japan, suuuuper friendly staff and amazing location on the river! My girlfriend had a little accident on her harm, so she culdn't climb to one of our little house and Alex gave us a cottage for the same price...pity we couldn't stay more! High recommended!

Probably the best hostel I’ve ever been to in Japan, the staff is absolutely lovely, there’s a bakery just underneath so it smells nice and breakfast has delicious bread. I even forgot something that the staff sent to me to another hotel. Best place to stay if you’re going to Mount Aso.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Ryokan Yamanoyu. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome and were very flexible with arrivaltime. They went above and beyond to accommodate our special dietary needs, showing exceptional care and effort. Their kindness and high level of service made our stay special - thanks! The onsens were a highlight—especially the outdoor ones. The variety of both private and shared baths allowed us to enjoy peaceful, relaxing moments in beautiful surroundings. As it's a smaller ryokan, the atmosphere was intimate and personal, which made our experience more unique. We stayed for two nights, and the ryokan surprised us with two different dining experiences in two separate rooms. It was a fun and memorable touch—and the food was excellent on both nights, beautifully presented with great attention to detail. We highly recommend Ryokan Yamanoyu and would love to return one day. What an extraordinary stay! We had one of our best nights in Japan at Okyakuya! From the first minute the service was outstanding, our baggage was transported to our room, car parked. Great room, even tough traditional it was modernized keeping its original charm. Both dinner and breakfast where amongst the best we had in any Ryokan we stayed at. After checking out we where offered additional towels as we wanted to explorer other Onsens in town

The staff service was excellent. The room is very spacious and cosy. From the room balcony, we can enjoy the stunning autumn foliage and colours. The Japanese style breakfast was nicely presented and delicious

Kurokawa Onsen Yama no Yado Shinmeikan features 5 hot-spring baths, including a 30-metre long cave bath.
