The level of service was simply outstanding! From the moment we arrived (not quite dressed for any occasion, after a hefty day hike in pouring rain), to the moment we left, the staff was extremely helpful. When we found out late in the evening our planned train connection wasn't available after all, they helped us find an alternative and offered bento boxed breakfast, only to come knocking on our door 5min later when they thought of an even better option by driving us to a bus stop a few villages away early the morning. Special thanks to Tak from the front desk! Dinner and breakfast were also an exciting culinary journey :-)

Absolutely gorgeous house, spotless clean, yet a “lived in” family house all possible amenities, appliances and utensils. The pictures are correct - you have your own view of the largest torii in Japan, presiding over rice fields. In the centre of Hongu, close to a few local eateries and 300mm from the visitor centre, bus stop and on the crossroads of the Kumano trails. We were concerned that there would ne noise from the adjacent road but the town is so quaint that that wasn’t not the case at all. We have spent two weeks travelling Japan with family and this was hands down the best place and we all regretted we didn’t stay longer. Thoroughly recommended.

I loved the guest and the beauty of the room and the surrounding area, I was very tired from a long hike in the summer heat but this place recharged me again. I also enjoyed the public onsen only 4 minutes from the house. I would love to come back one day!

The private onsens were amazing and well worth not having an ensuite shower. Perfect after the day's challenging hike, and also because of my tattoos. No booking ahead of time required too. Food (kaiseki) was refined, fantastic, and very filling. We also really liked the cafe at the public bath side which had beer (draft, bottled, local craft, commercial), ice cream, and other izakaya style food.

Room was excellent, large, and clean. Very close location to river and river onsen. Staff was all very friendly and helpful. There is a free parking lot at the hotel. Good access to all the onsens in the area and the Hongu Taisha.

Great resort with a river right in front where guest can walk to enjoy an open air onsen, good experience. Service was great and guests are quite pampered. Within the resort, there are different onsens to relax. Meals were excellent. Big complimentary car park.
