Such a great experience ! We spent a night on these hills in a very cosy lovely chalet. Steven brought us through the night on a bumpy adventorous natural street up to the lodge. View and landscape are amaizing. Mia and Ranzel are lovely and very helpful patrons. We had a flat tire; their staff fixed it within minutes! Delicious breakfast with view, all done with care and love. Thank you so much!

Our week in Rivel was such a treat. First, the place is beautiful. There are various hikes to do (some fairly challenging), bikes to go to the nearby villages, a splendid river cascading through the property with a natural pool. The cabin is small but comfy and well-made. Care is taken to position the cabins far enough from one another, for one to really feel they have their own little nook in the mountains. Yet just a few minutes walk takes you to their restaurant, which is delicious and very reasonably priced, for Costa Rica. Waking to a fresh, full breakfast and steaming hot coffee that was grown just up the hill, while looking over the valley and river, became a cherished pleasure during our week-long stay. What really stuck out to us though was the helpfulness and willingness to find creative solutions, by the entire staff and in particular Crystal. Numerous times we asked for help or guidance for something outside the hotel's services, and every time Crystal and her colleagues went out of their way to find the solution for us, often going further than what we had asked. From getting us to the hotel from the coast with our dog, to doing laundry, to adapting the menu - they made it their mission to accommodate our every need, without batting an eyelash. This is so rare, and so incredibly important! It sets Rivel well apart from other places I've stayed in throughout Latin America and the world.

We used this place as a stop off between Cahuita and San Jose. It sleeps 7 and offered tv and Wifi so met our needs. It’s not a pretty place inside, but it had a lovely dining table outside amongst nature, and enough kitchen stuff to make a meal. It was good value for the price we paid, but also ‘you get what you pay for’ holds true.

An excellent place to stay in the area, especially if you are there for the birding. Much more affordable than similar birding lodges in the area, and very close to Tayutic Mountain Reserve (which I strongly recommend visiting as well). You can stay here and visit Tayutic Mountain Reserve during the day for a price point that comes in at about a quarter what you'd spend to stay at the most well-known birding lodge in the area. The included breakfast was very good.

Anabelle and Mark, owners/founders built this place, settled on the top of a ‘mountain’ with superb views, to host students and professors studying the Pacuare nature reserve. Later on they decided to open up for tourists. It’s a very relaxed place with great hosts. We quickly felt at home and enjoyed the peaceful place. The longer you stay, the higher the appreciation. The combination of the environment, Mark y Anabelle (thanks for the great conversations) , the fantastic food in the evening, organizing a great rafting trip, visiting waterfalls & Turyalba, refreshing swimming pool and nature fulfilled all our needs and beyond! Therefore we gave it a 10.
