Our week in Rivel was such a treat. First, the place is beautiful. There are various hikes to do (some fairly challenging), bikes to go to the nearby villages, a splendid river cascading through the property with a natural pool. The cabin is small but comfy and well-made. Care is taken to position the cabins far enough from one another, for one to really feel they have their own little nook in the mountains. Yet just a few minutes walk takes you to their restaurant, which is delicious and very reasonably priced, for Costa Rica. Waking to a fresh, full breakfast and steaming hot coffee that was grown just up the hill, while looking over the valley and river, became a cherished pleasure during our week-long stay. What really stuck out to us though was the helpfulness and willingness to find creative solutions, by the entire staff and in particular Crystal. Numerous times we asked for help or guidance for something outside the hotel's services, and every time Crystal and her colleagues went out of their way to find the solution for us, often going further than what we had asked. From getting us to the hotel from the coast with our dog, to doing laundry, to adapting the menu - they made it their mission to accommodate our every need, without batting an eyelash. This is so rare, and so incredibly important! It sets Rivel well apart from other places I've stayed in throughout Latin America and the world.

If you enjoy birds and nature you will love these cabanas. Situated in a garden planted with birds in mind, there are so many hummingbirds and many other species, even a toucan! Jose is a great guide, and took us down to the river to look for a sun bittern. We ate local breakfasts - eggs, rice, beans and plantain, which were delicious. Very friendly and helpful hosts.

This is a great place in the middle of the picturesque nature, where you can chill and relax, not being disturbed by any external noise. the host of the place Gilbert is a really kind and pleasant person that can share a lot of interesting information about local places.

Great location with most welcoming and friendly hosts. The cabin was nice - with an exceptional view directly from bed and the hammock. The pool is small but very refreshing and we even spot tucans in the morning.

Imagine driving up and up a mountain to arrive at your own cottage with outstanding views of the clouds, town and distant mountain range (and volcano). The accommodation is outstanding with a wonderful Tica vibe (we stayed in the Toucan Cottage). The bed and shower are really good, with a small efficiency kitchen for those interested in a longer stay. The breakfast was served in a common area, it too was lovely, tropical and delicious.

It was awsome! You can see almost all Costa Rica from the location. Emilio knows sooo much about nature and takes care of it incredibily. Their restaurant is really good. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
