There are 2 indoor hot springs baths and an open-air bath at the property. The hostel was fantastic. We rented a tatami room, which was spotless, very comfortable and with a really nice view. The onsen was amazing, we absolutely loved it. Everything was clean, there were snacks, eggs to boil in the onsens in town and all cooking and serving tools to eat them afterwards. The bathrooms were incredibly clean. This was our favourite stay along the Kumano Kodo, despite being the cheapest.

Located in Tanabe, 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, Minshuku Sumiya offers accommodation with a public bath. With an open-air bath, the 2-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a shared bathroom. The ryokan features a hot spring bath and a housekeeping service. Staff member (who was a cleaner, not a receptionist) when we arrived was so helpful, above and beyond. A restaurant at the premises. Just beside the river. Had a beautiful swim in the river, and was able to lie in the shallows and feel the hot water rising around me. Not sure what minerals are in the water, but I felt so refreshed and clean after the swim. Strongly recommend a swim.

Hotel Kirinosato Takahara features outdoor and indoor hot spring baths, only a 2-minute walk from the World Heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes. It offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property, a terrace and rooms with a Japanese interior and Western beds. Great location. Great hosts and staff. Big comfortable rooms. And very good meals.

A natural hot spring just at the door, providing an incredibly unique experience of soaking in the wonder of nature while steps away from your base. The host is very helpful and offered some extra help regarding my luggage shuttle which I was struggling to sort out. He speaks fluent English.

The staff is very friendly, and the food and service are amazing!!! Highly recommended!

The house is spacious and scrupulously clean. The beds are very comfortable, and the bath is worth the wait to fill with hot spring water. We enjoyed the free snacks and instant noodles for a no fuss dinner. The Kawayu Onsen bus stop is a few meters away, making transport easy. Soaking in the river hot springs is a short walk away. We would definitely stay here again.

Staff are all very helpful!

Tetsuji provided very helpful guidance on how to access the property by public transport and left us detailed instructions on how to use the onsen bath and other appliances in the accommodation. We really enjoyed the onsen bath and the great manga collection! The kitchen was fully stocked with a microwave oven, boiler and utensils for preparing our meals. The location is a short bus ride away from the Nachi temple and waterfalls.
