Andrew and Jolene helped us feel more like friends than 'customers', and if/when we stay on the west coast again, we won't stay anywhere else. 100% recommended!

Karamea River Motels features free WiFi. I really regret that we had only booked this location for one night. Karamea is a little bit off the beaten track and sees less tourism than the rest of the island. It's exactly that extra quiet that I really enjoyed. On the roads, in the parks, but at the accommodation as well. There were plenty of Weka's in the backyard and you need a Weka guard (a high wooden plank) in front of your door to stop them from barging in. The sheep, llama's and deer in the front yard are a joy to watch and they'll occasionally walk up to the edge of your cabin grounds to say hello. And of course not to mention the house itself. Beautiful. Living room had a higher ceiling, giving it an even more spacious feeling than it already was. Great place, great houses. LIke I said, wish I could've stayed another night.

It is a 1-minute walk from Glacier Hot Pools. The counter staff was friendly. We had one apartment and a studio, both were spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The location was excellent - good eating places (e.g, Alice May) and local points of interest (e.g. Terrace Walk to watch Glow Worm after dark) are within walking distances. It is an easy drive to the Franz Josef glacier area. The jacuzzi in the apartment was great for both adults to relax and kids to have fun. The whole neighborhood environment was nice and quite for pleasant leisure walks around. We highly recommend this place for visitors to Franz Josef.

Outside it looks like a basic motel, but each room is clean, modern and has an excellent staff supporting it. Our family of four found this space perfect. Parents in the queen room, grandpa and grandson in the 2nd bedroom in twins. Small but useful kitchen, living room well sized and good TV options. Super kindness from the owners, appreciated the fresh milk and the recommendations on places to eat.

The West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail is 1.5 km from the door. Large room with kitchenette was very comfortable. Short walking distance to a good restaurant and bar. Grocery store is a couple of blocks away. Parking in front of our room door. Very friendly and helpful host!
