We were just driving through so we only stayed one night, but I would love to return for longer. I think it would make a great base to explore the Douro. The room was spacious and simple. Great linens, lovely bath products. The pool is stunning with a view of the valley. Big, well-appointed fitness center. Gorgeous spa (that I didn't have time to use, sadly.) Fantastic restaurant-- we enjoyed dinner and breakfast, and both were quite good.

The luxurious Wine House Hotel in Lamego, in the heart of the Douro region, is surrounded by extensive private grounds with vineyards. This typical 18th-century house was restored, respecting its traditional architecture and original features. It blends modern design with historical ambiance. We slept in one of the barrels, it's a bit small but offered a unique experience. The complimentary wine tasting was very nice. Great breakfast. We also had a very good dinner at the hotel restaurant.

We were greeted by our hostess and Superman. (Her lil munchkin) They gave us a tour of the place and oriented us with the facilities. The apartment is spacious, has everything you need and the terrace would be heavenly if you weren’t getting remnants of a cyclone.
