Location, silence, nature, cleanliness, Lots of entertainment. A great hotel surrounded by nature. Spacious bungalows with separate entrances. Spa and horse riding. There are small malnutrition, but this is a small problem. The hotel hosts kindly solve the tasks and help guests. The hotel has a sauna, pool, Hammam, hot water in rooms.

The accommodation is located about 20 to 30 minutes from Tarapoto. Tarapoto is a stressful city. In San Antonio de Cumbaza, on the other hand, you can find peace and quiet! In Puqio itself, you can really feel nature. The place is very natural and has many beautiful artistic details. It really is a dreamlike place! However, mosquito protection is essential in the area. Light-colored clothing also helps. ;-) Daniel and Mayra, the owners, are very nice and helpful. It was really nice to meet them! A must is swimming in the Cumbaza River – it's a great way to recharge your batteries! A trip to Catarata Huacamaillo is also highly recommended. You should allow enough time (at least 5 hours) to enjoy it to the full. You cross the river six times and then back again! Really great! It's best to visit the jungle during the dry season. Then you can go on more excursions. We also visited the Salto de la Bruja waterfall, which is very beautiful. All destinations can also be visited privately. You don't need a tour. However, you should find a taxi driver right at the beginning, because you will definitely need one to go on further excursions from Puqio. We traveled with Nixon – he was great! A visit to the Amazonia chocolate factory should also be on the agenda. We stayed at Puqio with our two children (8 and 11 years old) and really enjoyed it! The children fell in love with the place from the very first moment. For younger children, the location could be difficult, as the property is somewhat steep and you have to go up and down a lot. In addition, the houses are not designed for smaller children. It was perfect for our children. We had a very relaxing week at the Puqio Ecolodge and can highly recommend this accommodation!

The main thing about this lodge is that you are both really immersed in the natural environment but a walk or short moto-taxi ride from town. The more expensive luxury lodges further out of town maybe have more green space to explore and an even more secluded vibe... but this is a great compromise to experience both city and jungle at a great value price. Mindblowing fauna on-site - hummingbirds, woodpeckers, toucans and cute tamarin monkeys in the trees close by the bungalows (though as with elsewhere in the cloud forest area, you might need a telephoto lens or binoculars to see them as the canopy is so high). There was an abundance of butterflies and I had a praying mantis on my door one morning. As a naturalist who loves insects it was totally magical to stay here... the biodiversity is off the scale - amazing to have this 10 minutes from the town centre. By Urku down the road I also saw a monitor lizard ( a few metres long ), frogs at dusk and a macaw above the river. As a solo English traveller, having Christian there to translate for me also made a huge difference. He offered me lifts to town / elsewhere...booked me taxis... and generally went above and beyond as a host. Thankyou so much Christian! All the other people who worked there were also very kind sweet people, ready to help me when needed too. Like many places in Peru, it's gated and has a night guard ( also a lovely guy )... so it feels safe despite it's isolation. Tarapoto in general felt safe to me and I loved visiting the colourful town as well - I'm glad I didn't miss out on that being at the more remote lodges.

Everything, the place is amazing, the restaurant has really good food, and good drinks. Amazing pull and views, in the middle of the jungle. The natural pool and the path are such a nice add to an already amazing place to stay.

This is a private residency that was decided to be rented as a hotel, and you can feel it right away. The service is not smooth. Cleaning is not ok, no hot water, bath smelled from the first day, the breakfast was two eggs, one piece of bread, and some tiny pieces of fruits, which is ok, but definitely not the level of "lux bungalow". The enterence is "private" , meaning you arrive at the closed gate and have to call a manager, but the connection is off at that place so we had to come back to the main road to catch a connection. Then once you are at the property you are totally dependable on the manager. Whatever you want - just text him. But the internet is very bad and often off. The guy doesnt always checking the phone, as the proverb goes the first day the guest is a gold, but the last day they are a trash. The same is here! The territory is nice. That is it. As a traveller with an experience I can say that this place has a lot to improve and the manager is a young guy who is smiling into your face all the time but has soemthing else in his mind.

There was a lot to like about this place. Always a supply of purified water; quiet accommodations; large room; little details like hangers for your clothes; a variable breakfast (not the same thing morning after morning); clean grounds, chair to sit in outside or a hammock; river access; could walk to town if desired; some restaurants offered delivery service (limited, but still, you had a choice.) Always a delicious b'fast - fresh juice, hot coffee, bread, peanut butter, jam/honey, butter, and a variety of main dishes. I often made a peanut butter/jam sandwich and took it with me for lunch. I was there a full week and enjoyed Huingos very much. I'd definitely book there again. The other thing worth mentioning is that I had asked to be picked up at the airport and was told that someone would be there with a sign with my name on it. And THEY WERE. This service was included by Huingos and for a single woman, non-Spanish speaking, this was REALLY appreciated.

The room I had was a larger one and it was further away from the main lodge. It was gorgeous. The river views were spectacular. The food in the restaurant was exceptional. Such a good range of Peruvian fusion food showcasing all the abundance of Peruvian fruit and Vegetables.

The best was the location, very peaceful surrounding by nature. The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable and clean. Hot water in the shower works perfect, being in the jungle, many places don’t have hot showers, so for those that enjoy a warm shower after a long day, this is a plus. The river is just next to the lodge and it’s clean and lovely to spend some relaxing time!
