This was our favourite property in Japan. Warm and inviting. Staff helpful and kind. The onsen was awesome! Location fabulous. And the free drinks every night really created a great vibe. All the gusts of the hotel hanging out all eve in the common area as the town closes up quite early. The place was gorgeous and simple. I miss it as I sit in my big impersonal Tokyo hotel

spacious room, shared bathroom accommodations were well arranged and very clean. very welcoming place to relax. highly recommend taking up one of the meditation initiations or following the morning service. There’s a kitchen that is for use by guests if you feel the need to, however they provide a really handy guide to delicious dining in Takayama too.

Very spacious rooms. The bathroom is large and perfect for a relaxing soak with bath salts. The location is great—about two blocks from both the train station and the Takayama city center. The staff helped us make dinner reservations at several restaurants. There’s a 7-Eleven about a 10-minute walk away. The breakfast was delicious; you can choose from five different options, all of which include yogurt, a smoothie, and a drink of your choice. The staff were kind and attentive. We would definitely return!

Takayama Old Town

Takayama flourished as a wealthy trading town during the Edo Period, and today its Old Town is one of Japan’s best-preserved. Its cobbled lanes are lined with 17th-century houses, shrines and sake breweries, which open their doors to anyone keen for a taste of local life from bygone days.
