Colosseum

The gore! The glory! This iconic arena specialised in sticky ends. Built in the 1st century, it could hold up to 80,000 spectators, who would come along to witness gladiatorial combat and bloody re-enactments of naval battles. As you look up at the stands, it doesn’t take a huge leap of the imagination to hear the deafening roar of the crowds, or to picture the spectacular savagery on show.

Colosseum & Forum were amazing but tickets were sold out by the time we went to book them. We could have signed up for a tour but they were pricey and we prefer to walk around on our own time and not be stuck with a group. A great alternative was signing up for a ParCo membership (CoopCulture website). More expensive than the regular tickets but cheaper than a tour and we got inside the Colosseum first thing in the morning. Just go to the lineup for ParCo members and they'll direct you to the ticket counter where you get your passes which is good for 1 year.

Absolutely book a skip the line tour ahead of time. Be sure and book the guided tour that includes the Colosseum, the Underground, The Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill Tour. It will take about 4 hours but worth every minute!

HUGELY IMPRESSIVE...but be prepared to walk to access it. Bus stops are reasonably near but the main road is higher and access is only fair if you have walking difficulties. The size of the Coliseum is impressive and obviously once at the foot of the foundations it is even more impressive. We did not go in so cannot comment of interior...we felt we had seen enough just by walking all the way round it.

    Loved it.

Loved it. If you want to look down from the middle level of the "seating" area be prepared to climb a few flights of stairs. The stairs are also steep. That said, it was worth it. Bring water when you tour the forum and the colosseum. Hold onto your valuables when in outside the immediate monument/archaeology area.

Our Uber was late therefore we were a few mins late.

Our Uber was late therefore we were a few mins late. When we arrived, the contact folks shuffled us thru the gate with no connection to the group. We never were connected to the group. When we tried to speak to someone we could not get our tickets to pull up so we were asked to leave. Waiting to see if we receive refund we were promised.

Great and very convenient location, quiet while couple of steps away from Coliseum. The apartment is spacious and has everything needed for the stay. The outdoor terrace is a real blessing. The apartment is pretty big - so is the bed. It is stylish (lights, marble, wood etc). The kitchen is sufficiently equipped. The best value comes from the location, right in the city heart. It is at walking distance from the Coliseum, the Forums, the Trevi fountain etc. Just perfect. Good walkers (not with small kids) can even walk up to the Vatican. Numerous restaurants not far.

The location was brilliant as it was very close to the coliseum and forum romanum. However, there were people partying on the street beneath my window 2 out of 3 nights of my stay. The apartment lacked a coffee machine which is very unusual in Italy. The building has an old elevator which tends to break and is very slow. I would say the flat looks better on the booking photos when compared to reality. Overall it is a nice apartment but I expected more given the price per night.

Really lovely apartment in an apartment block. Has everything you need and more for a home from home with little extras provided by the host which was really nice. Very comfortable and great for group of friends or family. Very nice secure courtyard, lovely to sit with your morning coffee. If you’re ok walking it’s only 26 minutes walk to the coliseum where if you purchase a hop on hop off bus ticket you can get to every must see site in Rome.

Room was clean with comfortable bed, TV and ensuite. Location was good with only a 25 minute walk to the Coliseum and a Metro station nearby. Apartment felt very secure with Web app needed to open 3 doors before getting to room (although slightly worrying when Mobile Phone battery was running out after day in Rome).

The room was quite a good size with a central kitchen area that serviced 5 different rooms. The bath-tub was the real winner here. Spacious and deep with a jacuzzi and underwater lights which helped us relax after long days exploring Rome. 7 minute walk from Rome main train station and close to a relaxing park. Easy walk to the coliseum and other attractions and a convenience store was next door.
