Acropolis

Long before it became known as Bloomfield Falls, this magnificent waterfall was called Wujal Wujal by the indigenous Kuku Yalanji people. Hire a guide and learn why these people still consider Wujal Wujal to be sacred. Or just head down with your 4x4 and a picnic hamper, and have lunch in serious style!

A must to visit, it is climbable, I am 75 and with help from my daughter I made it to just before the top, I'm afraid of heights so didn't make the top with the crowds. Best time to go is 8am, our time was changed to 10am, due to a strike. If you are unable to climb the steps there is a cart that takes you to a lift which takes you to the top.

Go very early in the day, or very late, to avoid the huge crowds. Buy your timed tickets in advance, and they are separate from the museum. The museum is great, but there are several better collections in the center of Athens.

Nice to see but 30 euro is really too much for seing a few stones. Not much left of this area, like most temples of ancient Greece. We were a bit dissapointed. Greeks build an immage on the old history. A lot more labour of reconstruction could be done by escavating areas and putting the pieces together to look more like the original. Visitors should at least be permitted to walk inside the area of the temple.

Ancient wonder. It was a beautiful day when we visited the Acropolis. Majestic structure against blue skies. Tough parts of the monument is under renovation, the pathway for tourists was very well marked. People could walk around find the best photography angels and just soak in the history.

Athens is a wonderful city to visit & explore… however, beware of Rogue Taxi 🚖 drivers! If they don’t display their photo/licence walk away! Even if they put on the “meter” it’s best to ask for a price and not accept an astronomical cost on arrival !🥺 The fare from Airport to Athens is around 50€ NOT 120€ which we were charged by 1 bandit in August! We found a very honest & friendly Taxi driver who spoke English - works for a company called “Athens My Transfer” check it on-line.

This was my second time at the hotel, which shows how much I enjoyed it. The location is simply perfect, right in the heart of Athens. You can go walking to all important places (including, of course, the marvelous Acropolis). Staff is friendly and the room has good amenities, like a coffee machine and comfy bathrobes. Breakfast is a spectacle: you won't have to eat again until dinner. Staff is friendly. They gave us a delicious dessert for our honeymoon.

The Acropolis view is absolutely magnificent and truly unforgettable. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff, especially housekeeping, were outstanding, meticulous and thoughtful throughout our stay. The hotel is superbly located, within easy walking distance to all major tourist attractions, making it incredibly convenient. Room 52 in particular is everything you could ask for to make an Athens stay truly memorable, from the view to the comfort and the quiet elegance of the space. Highly recommended.

This is absolutely fabulous hotel, located quite centrally, not far from metro station, so, if traveling light, can be reach on foot from there. I got upgraded to Executive Suite, so I definitely stayed in a nice room. Everything was as expected from 4 star hotel, clean, convenient, nice, friendly and efficient staff. Didn't try breakfast but dinner at the restaurant was fine. During summer months there is a bar at the roof with a view over Acropolis. When in Athens next time will definitely stay there.

Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.

If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!

Consider visiting Athens in May or September.

Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
