British Museum

As Great Britain’s Empire expanded, so did its cache of material treasures – many of which are on display in this world-class museum. Among its eight million exhibits, you'll find the stunning Elgin Marbles from Greece, the Benin Bronzes and the legendary Rosetta Stone. The Reading Room stands at its heart and is spectacular in size and scope.

This is a fabulous museum, and takes more than a day to see.

This is a fabulous museum, and takes more than a day to see. We paid for an early tour, which was nice, but perhaps unnecessary. It was a fairly crowded Saturday in September, but it's so big viewers are able to spread out. Not sure what it would be like in the summer. I would love to go back and allow for 3 shorter days. We were exhausted after 8 hour.

Get a guided tour.

Get a guided tour. I normally like to explore places under my own steam. However I have missed so much in this incredible museum before my American Cousin persuaded me to join her on a tour! Also sometimes retired professors do free mini tours of their chosen subject. I enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Elgin/Parthanon marbles

Do not go to this museum thinking you will see everything. Even with close to four hours, we barely scratched the surface--but what you do see is incredible and that means there's always more for a future visit!

We were overwhelmed by the number of noisy visitors first thing in the morning. It was not a warm day but it was very stuffy and there was no air flow through a lot of the galleries. The information tags on some of the exhibits were poorly placed and very difficult to read unless you were right up close.

Pre-book a ticket or go on a late opening evening ( The queues can be very long). The Egyptian /Assyrian statues and monuments are spectacular ,asare the controversial Elgin marbles. For intrinsic British exhibits, Roman Britain is fascinating. The reading room is hosting an exhibition at the moment. A very interesting space set in The Great Court. Top tip _ don't try to see everything in one visit. Plan and Prioritize!! Top Tip:

Excellent location… a few steps far from a metro line, 10 walking minutes far from Kings Cross station and 5 walking minutes far from the British Museum! The room and the bathroom are clean, new, modern and comfortable, the full building has been recently renovated. In the room there’s also a kitchenette facility, maybe useful travelling with a small baby. Will be our first choice on next trips to London. Thank you.

Good breakfast but some sort of budget variant. It is a good idea to assign tables personally. I use to go to buffets several times, each time just a little bit, and it drives me crazy when I find my dishes taken away when I return. Here, this never happened: great! Good space for work with a laptop. Excellent location a stone throw from British Museum. Apparently, I did not forget anything in the room, so it appears to be cleverly designed, and I even remember the impressive view (floor #6).

Great location, so close to Major stations, and tube, short walk (20 mins) to west end, very close to British museum. The staff were very friendly and helpful (Maggie on reception in particular). The area is surprisingly quiet and there is a pleasant garden in the square. I had a desk in the room and wifi was very good.
