Definitely take the cog train up Gonergatt. Hike down at least two rain stops. The views of the Matterhorn and glaciers is stunning and well worth the walk. Be sure to wear good fitting shoes - it is relatively steep and you do not want your feet sliding forward in your shoes. It you have knee problems I would suggest wearing whatever support you normally use.
It was a great experience as the receptionist was welcoming and attended to us with a friendly face. As for the place itself, it's beauty was undescribable and left at at awe. It is truly a place to go back which we are hoping to go back to next time. Great job and please do continue the great service and maintaining the place.
Nothing prepares you for just how amazing it is to see this mountain from Gornergrat. Pay the money take the train up and then hike down a few stops to Riffelsberg. The trails are all downhill, well marked and worth the view. Then later in the evening go to the cemetery in the Englander church and remember the 500+ mountaineers who did not make it back to enjoy hot chocolate.
We loved everything about this hotel! The room was spacious, modern, and spotless, with a heated bathroom floor. The breakfast was excellent, the view from our room was stunning, and the staff were wonderful. Although the location isn’t very close to the station, it’s within walking distance of the Matterhorn Paradise cable car. This was the best hotel we stayed at in Switzerland — highly recommended!
The hotel is a typical chalet-type hotel but it is immaculate inside. It is visibly extra clean and the shower and bathroom was superb. The staff were lovely as was breakfast. Best of all was the view from the balcony looking out at the Matterhorn. Having completed a tour of Switzerland including 5 different hotel stays I have to say that this was the best and I can't wait to return.
Zermatt
The location was excellent, with peaceful surroundings and a great view of the Matterhorn from our apartment on the 4th floor. Brigitte and Karin were very helpful and gave good advice on where to start hikes or buy things. There was no breakfast at Jolimont, but the kitchen of the room was well equipped, and good breakfast was available at 3 min walk in a nearby hotel.
Zermatt
We were met at the station and transferred to the apartment. The apartment was in a great location close to the town - 5 minutes walk but in a quiet location. The apartment was very clean, spacious, comfortable with great views of the Matterhorn. We were also able to use the hotel facilities including pool and gym.
Zermatt
Artist Apartments & Hotel Garni are wonderfully located, centrally, but slightly off the beaten track of the charming village of Zermatt. The owner, Richard, is very helpful in planning any trips and hikes and some apartments offer the most stunning view of the crown jewel: the Matterhorn.
The Hotel Matterhornblick was one of our most memorable stays in Switzerland. We recommend taking advantage of the included breakfast featuring many options to choose from. Basque in the spa area after a long day of hiking. Such a great stay and only an 8 minute walk from the station.
We loved the family apartment with great views of the Matterhorn. The unit was very spacious, we couldn’t believe how much space we had to stretch out and enjoy. Breakfast was also quite good. Beds were among the best I have ever slept in in a hotel. We really loved it.
Next to the zermatt station, comes with shared balcony with part matterhorn view. Hotel is also hostel, comes with shared kitchen, bathroom and toilet which is convenient.
We stayed in the hotel apartments and it was great. The views of the Matterhorn were amazing, the breakfast great and welcome by Daniel fantastic.
