This guesthouse is located along one of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes and Yunomine Hot Spring, said to be one of the oldest hot springs baths in Japan, is a 5-minute walk from the property.

There are 2 indoor hot springs baths and an open-air bath at the property. I stayed in the shared rooms. I had plenty of privacy as each bed was in a walled-off cubby hole. The three Onsen on site were excellent and the bus stop was a couple of minutes walk away. It’s situated right along the Kumano Kodo route and perfect for a day or two hiking.

Rooms feature tatami-mat flooring, comfortable futon bedding and paper sliding screens. They are fitted with an LCD TV and a safe. Bathroom facilities are shared, and the public baths are open 16:00-22:00 and 06:00-09:00 daily. Exceptional experience, highly recommend. Afternoon meditation, morning service and Goma fire ritual included. Splendid authentic vegan meals.

200 metres from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, 民宿 和合 Minshuku WAGO is a recently renovated property set in Tanabe and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. It is located 29 km from Kamitonda Concert Hall and features full-day security. The guest house has parking on-site, a hot tub and a shared kitchen. The Minshuku is located in Chikatsuyu, which is a perfect location if you are hiking the Kumano Kodo. Whether you are taking two days from Tanabe or go all the way in one day, it is good to rest in Chikatsuyu. The Minshuku is very clean, with all the comfort of the room, kitchen and bathroom + shower. The best part is really Ike san hospitality, he can speak several languages and he is a great cook. From dinner to breakfast, including the lunch to go, everything he prepared was fully enjoyed. He is also very kind and overall interesting person to chat with. He definitely made our stay more comfortable.

39 km from Kishi Station in Koyasan, 高野山 宿坊 光明院 -Koyasan Shukubo Komyoin- provides accommodation with access to a hot tub. It is situated 45 km from Matsushita Park and offers luggage storage space. The ryokan features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. I wish I could have stayed longer in the temple! A very authentic experience with the room only being heated by a heat pump. Great location in the middle of all of the attractions. The food experience was also amazing: sitting on a mat in nicely decorated chamber with bamboo walls separating from other members staying in the temple. I also had the chance of bathing in the onsen which was amazing to have it onsite!

Clean and spacious homestay with a super friendly and helpful owner. Just a few minutes walking distance from the beach and easily reachable by train. I’d live to come back.

Bed was comfortable, there is a heater to make it comfortable for you. They took the time to show us a great spot for cherry blossom viewing! I definitely stay again, maybe even a night more to enjoy the beautiful countryside.

Everything was perfect, from the typical meals to the room, including the guided tour of the cemetry at night. It was a great experience. The Monk from Sweden was super kind and knowledgeable.

The apartment is beautiful and had everything we could have needed. The staff were so warm and welcoming too, and we were greeted with a delicious breakfast at 6am before we set off. What a great stay!
