The breakfast and dinner were delicious with lots of homemade produce. The place itself was beautifully renovated and in an amazing location for walking the Nakasendo trail.

The owner and his mother were so kind, they gave us many advice and news about the current event and matsuri. The house is a lovely japanese one with a nice view on the river. It was very big and comfortable for our family. All necessary equipment (bath, laundry, towels, kitchen..);and also nice gifts 😁. It also work like a small conbini as you can buy noodle, drinks whatever you need in the house.

Really loved the stay at Private House Takayama – it felt like a home away from home. The place was very clean and had a very well-equipped kitchen which made our stay particularly enjoyable as we were able to make our own meals. (There is also a washing machine and dryer). The location is very convenient with sights, food options and supermarkets within walking distance. The hosts were highly responsive and provided very clear and useful information to ensure a smooth stay, including guidance on parking. We look forward to staying here again on our next visit to Takayama.

Set in Shirakawa in the Gifu region, with Shirakawago nearby, Shiroyamakan features accommodation with access to a hot tub. The 4-star ryokan features river views and is 47 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. An incredible experience in Shirakawa-go! My wife and I stayed there for only one night and it was gorgeous! The hotel is run by a local family which lives in the city for more than 100 years. The ryokan was recently renovated (2y from now) and the rooms are truly impecable, combining comfort with a historical touch. The food service (dinner and breakfast) are unique, with dishes the family collect in the area (they harvest, fish and even hunt the food they serve). The hospitality was also another level. The remarkable example was that we mentioned in the beginning of the stay we were travelling to Japan to our honeymoon and they quietly prepared a mini event during our dinner - they asked our favorite song, which was our mother language and specifically asked if we drank alcohol. During the dinner, they did a small celebration typical in japanese weddings where the couple shares a sake on a red bowl. Thank you Shiroyamakan team! 👏

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. We loved our time at Auberge Hidanomori. The decor is beautiful and in a lovely location in the outskirts of Takayama. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who gave us recommendations for some local walks and provided a free shuttle to/from town. We would definitely recommend booking in for dinner - the food was incredible and the best that we had during our trip to Japan. We hope that we will be back again some day - thank you!

The house is brand new and fully equipped.

Set 600 metres from Takayama Station and 2.7 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village in the centre of Takayama, Utatei Mago offers accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. The air-conditioned accommodation is 48 km from Gero Station. The property is non-smoking and is situated 500 metres from Fuji Folk Museum. The acomodation was very clean, modern and well-located. We had a very confortable stay and were able to relax a lot in between excursions. The host left us a lot of great recomendations for food options, we especially enjoyed the grocery supermarket suggestions. Highly recommend staying here.
