Lovely room in a cottage type building at the back of the pub. Although central in York very quiet at night. Friendly helpful staff. Great evening meal and breakfast.

Brilliant place right in the heart of York - pre communication with the hotel was effective and replies quick, the welcome was very friendly, after a quick check in we still had dinner at the pup - great food with vegetarian option. Darren made us feel especially welcome with a great sence of humour and Charlie the next morning, a friendly face helping us with breakfast. Check out the "secret garden", a hidden treasure!

Loved the location, the room was comfortable and clean and the staff was absolutely lovely! The room was great, really nicely decorated and I loved the dim lights. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

Wow! Staying in the Black Swan was a highlight of our trip to the UK. Magnificent old building with amazing history and a few ghost stories. We stayed in the cottage room upstairs and we didn’t want to leave. Spacious and clean and very comfortable. Perfect location with easy walk to anything in York city centre. Amazing full cooked breakfast. The food and drinks in the pub are fantastic especially the Sunday roast. Maggie and the staff were all amazing. We highly recommend staying here if you want the real York experience!

Firstly, this is a vibrant pub full of the best kind of people. Second : the staff are all naturals. After that: Food and drink are of a good standard and exceptional value. There is a personal touch about it all. The picturesque quaintness of Cawood is an experience I greatly appreciated too
