Our house is called Vivere which means “Dare to live” or “Live your dream” and it is the realization of our dream to own a holiday house in Hermanus. We live in Johannesburg and have been coming to Hermanus for as long as 25 years. The house has 6 1/2 bedrooms and can comfortably accommodate 12 - 14 people. There is a swimming pool, boules pit and table tennis available at the property. We have a largely indigenous garden with views of the mountain and 2 outside patios where one can have barbecues. There are 2 sitting rooms, a conservatory and open plan kitchen where visitors can relax and socialize. We are situated within walking distance to the village and the famous Hermanus cliff paths and the golf course. However, we would suggest hiring a car.
For the cook, we have an Ilve range with 2 ovens and a gas hob with 6 different functions, 2 fridges with an additional drinks fridge as well as a freezer. For balmy summer barbecues, we ha e a Weber charcoal barbecue as well as an electric Plancha. You will also have an ice machine at your disposal. Gerald Mwangonde is our housekeeper who will be in attendance during normal working hours on working days.
We as a family love the outdoors (going for walks and runs, camping, hiking and cycling) and travel. Pat and I are oil painters and love art and visiting galleries in other countries. We love wine and gourmet food and are avid readers. Pat loves military history and we have been on some great holidays to famous battle sights. Pat is also an avid golfer and tennis player. We are also passionate about the Cape’s unique flora.
Hermanus is a famous whale watching spot and the 12 km of cliff paths offer the ideal viewing point in the months from August to October. The Cape Fynbos floral kingdom is one of the six plant kingdoms of the world and is the most prolific. It has approximately 9500 plant species in an area as small 90 km2. It is classified as a world heritage site. Plant lovers will find this area fascinating all the year round. Hikers will find routes of all levels in the beautiful mountains behind Hermanus. There is also shark cage diving in Gansbaai, sea kiyacking, whale watching on a boat, beach walks on a 20 km long beach. The Hemel en Aarde valley has many high quality wine estates for the Wine lover and many of them have adjoining gourmet restaurants. There are also excellent estates in the Strandveld area and other areas adjacent to Hermanus. There are 100 restaurants to choose from in the greater Hermanus area. We also have beautiful beaches for everyone to enjoy.
