Mafube Mountain Retreat is situated in an amphitheater of mountains with unbelievably stunning views of the mountains from every window. It is a place where you can rest and recuperate from your busy city life, while enjoying the beauty and peace of nature. Our comfortable self catering cottages are well equipped for cooking simple meals. Towels and sheets are provided.
There is a lot to do here.
You can see genuine and very well defined Dinosaur footprints, from 190 million years ago situated a 20 minute hike from your chalet on one of our many spectacular hikes. There are wonderful nature walks, and a picnic spot with tables and chairs in a secluded and shady area with new views of the mountains. There is a double canoe, a racing canoe and a paddle board on the dam and a swimming pool to cool off in during hot summer days! The communal Lapa near the swimming pool has DSTV, ping pong, and a dart board for fun on rainy days.
For the Children, there is a trampoline and swings near the chalets, and a plantation playground, which has climbing ladders and balance bars among the trees as well as a long swing and a very popular safe zip-line for children under 40 kgs. Come visit!
I am friendly and enthusiastic and love meeting new people! Chris, my husband and I are living our dream on Mafube Mountain Retreat which we bought with friends in 2006 and have developed into a place where people can come to experience the peace and beauty of Gods creation, and escape the hustle and bustle of city life. We live with two small dogs and have two married children who live in Johannesburg and the UK and 4 granddaughters. I love visiting family and friends and enjoy travelling to new places. I look forward to meeting you and showing you around our stunning farm!
Fouriesburg is a small but very friendly village, situated 10 Km from our farm, where there are several "Mom and Pop" shops and eateries and two good butcheries. You can buy basic food and drinks there but for any luxuries you need to go further afield. There is an architecturally beautiful sandstone church in town and many of the houses are also made of the local sandstone which is very attractive. Outside town here are the water tunnels which are amazing natural caves up in the mountain which are a must see. Cherries and deciduous fruit is grown in the area as well as wheat, maize and beans. Is is also a good area for beef and mutton production.
It is basically an adventure tourism area where there are quad bike and 4X4 routes, and horse riding is available. Wine tasting can be done at weekends at Mile High Vineyard.
