Hermine van der Westhuizen began her hospitality career in 2004 at the Central University of Technology Free State’s Hotel School. She completed her first-year practicals as a chef at the Southern Sun Hotel, Johannesburg International Airport, and worked part-time as a receptionist at College Lodge in Bloemfontein. For her third-year management practicals, she was at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town in 2007. In 2008, she returned to Kathu to work at Acacia Guesthouse, then owned by her parents. With the approach of the Confederation Cup and Soccer World Cup in 2010, she moved back to Bloemfontein and became the assistant manager at College Lodge. By September 2010, she was appointed Food & Beverage Manager at Anta Boga Hotel in Bloemfontein, the only 5-star hotel in the Free State and Northern Cape at the time. She was promoted to Executive Housekeeper in 2012, and to Executive F&B/Housekeeping Manager in 2013. In 2015, she advanced to Deputy General Manager of the same property. In July 2017, Hermine pursued her dream and passion for the industry by becoming the owner of Acacia Guesthouse. This family-run guesthouse understands the needs of traveling guests and looks forward to welcoming you.

Our individually decorated en-suite rooms offer a private entrance, air conditioning, and DStv to make you feel right at home. Each room also includes complimentary high-speed fiber internet, a desk and chair, coffee and tea with treats, a small fridge with water and ice, and a microwave. Secure undercover parking is available for standard vehicles free of charge. Please note that height restrictions apply, and we do not accommodate utility vehicles or trucks. If you are traveling with multiple vehicles, please inform us in advance to ensure adequate parking space. Start your day with a sit-down breakfast in Bon Appétit, our dining room, featuring relaxed music and a variety of coffee and teas. Ample seating ensures comfortable social distancing. Lunch packs and dinner are available subject to availability, otherwise, you will be directed to local restaurants. Please note that breakfast cannot be exchanged for take-away or cash. During load shedding, although Acacia does not have a generator, we provide battery-charged lights and two additional emergency free-standing lights per room. High-speed fiber internet remains available during these times. At Acacia Guesthouse, we aim to offer a relaxed and quiet stay, accommodating only registered guests. We do not have a barbeque area. Our rooms cater to business travelers, but leisure guests are also welcome. As a family-run property, we have friendly, well-trained pets (cats and a dog) on the premises; however, we cannot accommodate traveling pets. Acacia Guesthouse is located in the family residential area of "Old" Kathu, just 2 km from major shopping centers, restaurants, and the Kalahari Country Club, which features a fitness center, swimming pool, and a top 14 golf course. Please note that some nearby residential properties use generators during load shedding, which may produce noise.
