Originally believed to have been a tea house, on one corner of a well-preserved Thai-Chinese colonial styled residential city square, an adjacent pair of meticulously restored two-storied shophouses offers a very small and friendly “home from home”. Designed to give an oriental cultural experience with well-appointed comfort and communications, this is truly a place to stay with a difference. The charm of a 19th Century shophouse, the daytime buzz of an active community and nearby markets, the whiff of Asian street-side cooking, the close proximity of royal history and magical temples, the smiles and greetings of passers-by are all supplemented by our individual attention to your own comfort and needs in a way not possible in large luxury hotels.
We are the same people who bring you ThaiCraft fair and Heritage Craft&Cafe shop. ThaiCraft Fair Trade Co. Ltd. is an independent, locally-owned and self-supporting social enterprise promoting self-reliance for village artisans from all parts of Thailand, using Fair Trade practices. ThaiCraft is best known as organisers of the ThaiCraft Fair, a one-day event held monthly in central Bangkok. Around 50 different groups of artisans are invited to take part in partnership with ThaiCraft. Just a few steps from 1905 Heritage Corner! In a recently restored shop-house, one of the oldest in Bangkok, the Heritage Craft Shop and Café is a convenient and interesting stop-over on a walkabout of the old city of Bangkok (Rattanakosin Island). Just the place to take a rest in the heat of the day! Come in for a cup of fair-trade coffee or tea and a cake, bun or cookie and take a look at the crafts we have displayed.
Perhaps just as memorable is uncovering the hidden treasures of this densely historic area, much of which does not appear on the tourist maps. You can find out more of the history of the shophouses, including our guesthouse, and the communities who have lived in this area for generations. There many are more exquisite temples, fascinating museums, amazing crafts and revered places of learning nearby. We can help you plan your time to make these discoveries, either on your own or with a knowledgeable guide who knows the communities and the backstreets well. In addition, we have our own Heritage Craft shop around the corner where unusual traditional and modern craft products are sold made in villages in all parts of the kingdom. We know the excitement of finding the unexpected and we want our guests to share that experience which finds a corner our hearts for the cultural heritage of the Thai people.
