Imagine a cozy wooden cottage nestled in the heart of picturesque Terchová, offering peace and adventure in a single breath. The cabin features two separate apartments – a larger one with three bedrooms (4+3+3 beds) plus up to four extra beds, ideal for a group of up to 14 people; and a smaller one with two bedrooms (each with 3 beds) + 1 extra bed.
Each apartment has its own bathroom with a toilet and a completely new, fully equipped kitchen. At the back you’ll find a private terrace with seating, a gazebo with a brick grill – the perfect spot for evening chats over barbecue. Kids will love our playhouse, sandbox, and trampoline, and behind the house a small creek whispers – the perfect soundtrack for relaxing after a hike.
We are Majka, Michal, our little Hanka and even smaller Elizabeth – a family that embarked on an adventure with this wooden cottage in June 2025. Until then, it had mostly been used as a rental, but we decided to give it a new life – one where it becomes a place for our family moments, as well as a pleasant retreat for you, our guests.
From day one, we started improving it – little by little, in the evenings, on weekends, as it usually goes with kids :-) The cottage, as you’ll experience it during your stay, already reflects many small and big upgrades and renovations, though many more still await us as our next challenges.
What to see in Terchová and the surrounding area (and it’s really worth it)
Terchová isn’t just the birthplace of Jánošík – it’s a vibrant folkloric gem!
Above the village, on the way to the Vrátna Valley, rises a monumental statue of Juraj Jánošík (7.5 m), created in 1988 by Ján Kulich.
A short walk from the center, atop Oblaz Hill, stands the 30-meter lookout tower Terchovské srdce. It’s accessible via an educational trail and offers panoramic views of Terchová and the surrounding mountains – great even for casual hikers.
In the quiet part of Šípková you’ll find a modest but romantic spot – Zvonica u Marunov. You can reach it by car or bike. Not only is the sunset over the Malá Fatra ridge beautiful there, but the silence itself feels like therapy.
But that’s not all – Terchová thrives on hiking:
Conquer the legendary Jánošíkove diery, a canyon full of waterfalls, ladders and wooden walkways. The classic route through the Lower and Upper Holes (about 8 km, 3–4 hrs) is manageable even for families with younger kids. And if you’re up for a challenge, you can combine it with a climb to Malý Rozsutec (1343 m).
And for the brave ones: climb the majestic Veľký Rozsutec (1610 m), the symbol of the mountain range and close to the Jánošíkove diery trail – a panoramic summit with views of Krivánska Malá Fatra, the surrounding valleys and other stunning corners of Slovakia.
In winter, you can enjoy skiing, cross-country trails and other winter fun in the Vrátna Valley – a favorite resort for winter enthusiasts.
And as a bonus? Terchová breathes folklore. Every summer, the Jánošíkove dni festival brings the whole region to life.
