"Karst is captivating," wrote Slovenian poet Marko Kravos — and it's hard to disagree. Captivating landscapes, captivating people, and a truly captivating place for a holiday.
Hiša Pliska, a beautifully restored stone house, preserves the essence of traditional Karst architecture while offering all the comfort you need. This charming and surprisingly spacious cottage features a cosy apartment on the first floor with a large terrace — the perfect spot to soak in the authentic spirit of the region. It’s ideal for families, hikers, or cyclists, and suits both active adventurers and those in search of peace and quiet.
From the house’s courtyard, you can easily explore the surroundings on foot, by bike, motorbike, or car. Hiša Pliska is a great starting point for discovering western Slovenia: the Karst plateau, the North Primorska region, and even the Mediterranean coast are all within reach.
For those who don’t mind getting their hands a little dirty, the owners invite you to help mow their hidden vineyard plot during the summer. Or you can simply unwind — picnic in the meadow, breathe in the tranquil Karst air, and end your day with a magical bath under the stars.
Hi, I’m Veronika. I don’t just host guests — I welcome friends.
This traditional stone house in the heart of the Karst isn’t just a place to stay; it’s my home. And every person who walks through its doors becomes part of its story.
I cherish meaningful conversations, the sharing of ideas, and the quiet beauty of local customs. Over the years, friends from near and far have brought their spirit into this house — and each has taken a little of its warmth with them. Come just as you are, and feel at home.
Discover the charm of Pliskovica — affectionately known as the "bird village," thanks to the many locals whose surnames echo the names of birds.
Get a feel for everyday life here by walking the Pliska Trail, which weaves through the village and its surroundings. Along the way, uncover the little quirks that make this place special: the symbolic Trellis of European Friendship honouring ties with all 25 EU member states, the old communal village well, the Church of St. Thomas, and excellent local wineries offering Teran — affectionately known as the “healing wine.” You’ll also meet local artisans, like the stonemason and the beekeeper, who keep tradition alive.
The magical underworld of Karst is just around the corner — explore the fairy-tale caves of Vilenica, Škocjan, and Postojna. From here, you’re perfectly placed for day trips: head north to the Goriška region and the hills of Brda, or south to the coast. Italy is just a stone’s throw away.
For hiking enthusiasts, the Nanos Plateau and the hills of Volnik and Trstelj offer panoramic views stretching from the Alps and Dolomites in the north to the Karst and the Adriatic Sea in the south.
And if you're in the mood to indulge, you’ll find everything from cosy local taverns to Michelin-starred restaurants — perfect for exploring the rich flavours of the region.
