Porto Pim, magic zone and obligatory point of your vacations in the Island of Faial. It was a place of inspiration for the Italian writer António Tabucchi and served as a backdrop for his novel "The Woman of Porto Pim". When you visit, you will see why.
The chronicler Gaspar Frutuoso makes mention of Porto Pim in the sixth book of his "Saudades da Terra", because it was then the best port of the islands, except when the southwest wind whipped him. In fact, it is a wide cove of dark sand, in shallow shore, forming an extensive beach as is not often found in the Azores.
On the outskirts of Praia de Porto Pim you will find Monte da Guia and Monte Queimado, two excellent trails for hiking or trail endemic species and a lush landscape. You can also visit interpretation centers of the Monte da Guia complex, such as the Porto Pim Aquarium and the Whale Factory or the Casa dos Dabney.
