Casa do mar is a guest house directly at the coastline. The house was finished in 2022 and is build with a lot of local wood and lava rocks. So it is a great mixture between the traditional lava rock and a the classic austrian houses. The house is equipped with modern sustainable technolgy such as solar water heating and floor heating to increase the comfort and decrease the enviromental impact. The house is build 50m from the ocean in an nature reserve which is less than one kilometer from the town centre of Madalena (the largest village of Pico) . Every room offers sea view and some an additional view of the Pico volcano. We have build the house on our own and have therefore tried to carry out every detail the best way possible. The house also offers a multipurpose room with full sea view that can eather be used for yoga, light training or meetings and so on. A large garden with a terrace platform just about 20m to shore another terrace also with great sea view, a lounge a community kitchen with sea view and somewhat more will hopefully offer you a great stay on this beautiful island.

We, Nuka, Mogli, Noah, Stella, Victor Mona, Marty and Neusa hope to welcome you in our guesthouse Casa do mar. We (Nuka, Mogli, Noah, Stella, Victor) are a young family with german roots but our two older sons have spend most of their life on Pico. Mona, Marty and Neusa are good old friends of us from South Africa, Netherlands and Cape Verde. The three together operate the guest house since 2024. I (Victor) came to Pico in 2007 to work on a prototype wave energy power plant. As it took some more time to harvest some energy from the ocean as expected I stayed much longer than expected. Later on first my wife than the kids followed. To build the guesthouse was a dream but also an opportunity because the land was of a friend who could not find someone who wanted to buy it at that time. As I had to be present on Pico due to the power plant it appeared a good idea to use the free time to build this house. However the power pland collapsed in 2018 and we continued to build the house. It was a fun but also demanding time, living offgrid in a small hut some meters from shore with two small kids building a large house on our own. We went back home to earn money in winter and spend it on the construction during the rest of the year. Now after some happy years with our kids in school on Pico and 2 seasons in which we ran the guesthouse we had to return home to Germany in 2024. We are still happy to welcome you and since 2023 and 2024 Neusa, Mona and Marty are also happy to welcome you in our small family business.
