“Great location. Daniela was quick to respond. Loved being in “our town” once all the bus loads of tourists left at the end of each day. Apartment was older style but couldn’t really fault it - not modern, but ok for being older style. Great...”
WHO WAS ANTÓNIO MOREIRA?
He was born in Óbidos in 23 of April of 1887, and managed the sophisticated store Salão Mimoso, selling mostly ladies’ hats, in Rua Augusta, one of the trendiest streets in central Lisbon.
In order to keep the store supplied with the latest creations from Paris, he would make yearly trips to this city, getting acquainted to the most recent developments. Some of the hats were imported, others were crafted according to French design in a small workshop above the store.
These trips lead to marrying Renée and taking painting lessons with the Alsatian artist Robert Kammerer. In a letter to António, Robert quoted Picasso when saying: Ce n'est pas après la nature que je travaille, mais devant la nature, avec elle. He began spending more and more time sitting down painting his watercolours in the streets of Óbidos, and everywhere he went. It was his life's passion. This passion is expressed in each of our accommodations.
He died in Lisbon the 25 of October of 1965 and was a great uncle and the godfather of the present owner of this house.
