The Red Nest is situated beside Castle Hall, an 8-bed property, making it the ideal place to stay in Tekapo when traveling with a larger group, but seeking some independence. The Aoraki Mackenzie district is renowned for its night sky (the largest Dark Sky Reserve in the world), beautiful scenery and unbeatable climate. Whatever the season, you’ll never be short of things to do in Tekapo, including skiing, walking, horse trekking, hot pools, star-gazing, scenic flights, boating and ice skating. Close to everything Tekapo has to offer, Cowan’s Hill Reserve with its popular walking and biking tracks is right outside The Red Nest’s back door. For those looking to make the most of the Lake Tekapo ski scene, Mt Dobson and Roundhill Ski Areas are both 50 minutes away. Tekapo is the perfect base for exploring New Zealand tourist attractions further afield, like Twizel (40 minutes from Tekapo), Ohau Ski Field (1 hour 30 minutes) and Aoraki Mount Cook (1 hour 10 minutes). It’s on the main highway between the cities of Christchurch and Queenstown, both equipped with international airports, and one hour from Timaru, Tekapo’s nearest airport.
