Everyone deserves a little bit of luxury... You can enjoy the elegant appointments and spectacular sunsets over the Hokianga and either take advantage of the fine wines & restaurant quality home cooked meals on offer, or cater for yourselves in the fully equipped kitchen area, or make yoiur own BBQ on the deck overlooking the harbour. Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or traveling New Zealand on vacation, Marriner's understated style and serene environs are a welcome and well deserved change from the ordinary.
Mariners is also a perfect base for exploring the Far North. It is a day trip to Cape Reinga, a day trip to Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands and with Opononi, Ompapere and the Waipoua Forest so close, another day can be spent at the Omapere lookout, on the beach and in the forest. Why spend your holiday driving to your next accommodation, when you can experience a different attraction each day, and sleep in the same bed each night?
I am an ex restaurateur and lawyer, and, with the very odd exception, hosting is much more fun than either of my previous occupations. I try to cater for guests who enjoy a touch of luxury and who also like their privacy. I greet my guests, do my best to provide what they ask for, and leave them to enjoy their stay.
Marriners is located about 10 minutes walk from the center of Rawene. While small, the town is one of the oldest in New Zealand and enjoys one of the best, if not the best, climates in the country. There is a car ferry to Kohukohu and further North every hour (on the half from Rawene) til 7.30 pm on the Rawene side and the last ferry leaves the Kohukohu side at 8 pm.
The Rawene cafes are not open for dinner, which is why I offer room service dining, but we have a very good fish and chip shop that is open til just after the last ferry, so you can order en route. The Opononi Hotel and the Hotel at Omapere both have restaurants and the Landing Thai Cafe in Opononi is open from 5 pm to 7.30 pm, Wednesday to Saturday.
