Manaaki Mai, Rustic Retreat is a proper outdoor hut experience. There is no electricity but you will enjoy a luxurious soak, under the stars, in our gas fired outdoor bath. Inside the hut, which is tiny; you'll find a solar power light, and a snuggly warm duvet and blanket to keep you warm. The experience is completed with the composting loo approximately 100 metres up the hill and if you are extra lucky, you may need your gumboots to cross the stream if it is running!
'Manaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua' means care for the land, care for the people, look to the future.
Paul and I are passionate about the land on which Manaaki Mai is situated. We consider ourselves kaitiaki (guardians) of the land and our aim is to preserve and conserve the land and the stream by replanting and extending the native bush. This will in turn bring back more birds and native species and also help ensure clean water is making its way into our harbour.
We LOVE sharing Manaaki Mai and encourage all people who stay with us to make the most of the 50 acres of tussock grassland, native bush, olive groves, orchards, rocky bluffs and magnificent views.
Diamond Harbour has a cafe/bar which is a handy place for meals, coffee etc., but a short ferry ride to Lyttelton will provide a vast array of entertainment, cafes and bars.
