It's an eco-adventure with composting toilet, gas heated outdoor shower, indoor and outdoor dining, both with stunning sea views out to Great Barrier and Coromandel. Perfect couples or solo retreat, back to nature. A 1 minute walk from the cabin down to the beach at Enclosure bay.
BBQ your meal on the deck or use the kitchenette inside. Complimentary kayak and SUP available for your use. We provide bottled drinking water. We have a Bluetooth speaker for you to play your music from your phone.
The path up the hill to the cabin, from the parking area, is about 80 metres walk so you will need some walking fitness.
Our location is pretty special. It's off the beaten track, and quieter than other northern beach areas. Getting here is easiest by car. You can bring yours over on the Sealink ferry or rent on the island. Alternatively you can use the AT bus from Matiatia ferry port, but you’ll need to walk down the hill 15 minutes from the bus stop, which we don't recommend at night. You can get a taxi from the ferry terminal to Enclosure bay too. Uber doesn't operate on Waiheke yet. Some people enjoy renting ebikes from Matiatia or Oneroa, and exploring the island enroute to Kereru Cabin. It will take 1.5-2 hours to walk from Matiatia to Enclosure bay, using coastal tracks part of the way.
We look forward to sharing our slice of paradise with you. We live next door and are often around on Waiheke, or in the city. Chloe is our friendly dog, a golden retriever x border collie who may or may not be around. We enjoy the native bird population on Waiheke, in particular daily Tui and Piwakawaka visits. We often see Kereru, Kotare and Kaka in the neighbourhood. The views on the 20 minute walk from Kereru cabin to Hekerua bay across the cliff tops are magnificent.
We also enjoy snorkelling in Enclosure bay, visiting the Snapper, John Dory, stingrays and a local octopus who lives in the rocky barrier to the bay.
McKenzie Reserve is our local regenerating bush walking track. Many other coastal and forest day walks are nearby .
Waiheke is home to numerous vineyards, a local brewery/restaurant called The Heke, Saturday arts and crafts market in Ostend, with many culinary delights to discover. We're handy to award winning wineries, restaurants within 10 - 15 minutes drive including Mudbrick, Casita Miro, Passage Rock.
You can pick up groceries in Oneroa village, at the Four Square or at Island Grocers, on the way from the ferry to the cabin. There are numerous restaurants and cafes there too. It's about a 10 minute drive from Matiatia to Enclosure bay. There is a large Countdown supermarket for more provisions in Ostend, about a 10 minute drive away.
Palm beach is a 25-35 minute walk up and down the hill from the cabin. Sandy bay is a 5 minute walk, and Enclosure bay is right in front of us, just at the bottom of the section, 1 minute from the cabin.
