Enjoy a warm welcome and a smile when you arrive at 'The Whistling Frog' host check in at the cafe from 3pm - 6 pm daily. A welcome pack can be provided if you come in late at the kiosk next to the campground. This establishment is family owned and operated, we are very passionate about what we do and encourage others to admire the Catlins as much as we do. We offer local information about top attractions in the area, and want to ensure you make the most out of your Catlins adventure.
Property information
Our accommodation is situated directly off the Southern Scenic Route Highway, at the turn off to McLean Falls, at Rewcastle Road and 400m from the entrance to 'Cathedral Caves'. We are central to the 28 main attractions in our Catlins area, with beaches, boardwalks and bays a short 10- 30 minute drive. Our rooms are nestled among native trees and flaxes, which attract the Tui and Bellbirds. For ultimate relaxation we offer fully self-contained rooms, and for those looking for something a little different we offer historic Kiwiana Cabins. The Whistling Frog restaurant is currently open for summer. We are located in Central Catlins, approx. 1.5 hours from Invercargill, 2 hours from Dunedin. Owaka is the closest township (40km) and Papatowai is the closest settlement (15km) with rolled ice cream, store, food truck and fuel station.
