Accommodating up to only 12 guests means we are are able to offer a truly personalised service, with as much or as little involvement with us as you would like. We aim to make your stay all about you and about ensuring you have a relaxing and enjoyable time in the sunny, historic Bay of Islands.
Privacy and seclusion have become more important so our beautifully maintained two bedroom guesthouses or villas, each with two bathrooms and two bedrooms (with super king beds which can be reconfigured into two singles) provide maximum flexibility and security for guests. Ideal for a family holiday, a break with friends, a romantic retreat or a golfing get away.
The Owners Cottage, a fully self contained one bedroom cottage is lovely for a romantic getaway, a weekend break or a restful holiday.
Treghan provides each guest with FREE breakfast provisions (including home-made organic muesli) for every day of your stay. These are ready in your guesthouse when you check in. If you are diary free, gluten free, vegan or sugar free just let us know and we will cater accordingly. If you would like us to add bacon and eggs please let us know - there is a small additional charge for this.
Although Treghan is located only a kilometre from the Kerikeri township, it feels as though it is in the depths of the country. Peaceful and secluded, the lodge and guesthouses are situated on 8000 square metres, some of which is still in bush which is home to kiwi, pheasants, weka and many other native birds. The remainder comprises landscaped gardens through which guests are welcome to wander, and which have featured in the New Zealand House and Garden Magazine and the NZ House and Garden Tour. The gardens have also been featured in the local Garden safari and the main house in Real/Hospice House Tour.
We do occasionally allow guests to bring their pet, but only small non-moulting dogs are accepted, only by request.
Anna and her partner Murray are born New Zealanders, though of English, Scottish and Irish origin!
After many years working, living and travelling around New Zealand and overseas, we moved to Kerikeri in the beautiful Bay of Islands during 2015 and built the Treghan guesthouses.
We love the Bay of Islands, having holidayed here for 15 years prior to our move. We really enjoy the location and Treghan Lodge as well as the interaction with all our guests.
Treghan Lodge offers guests a home away from home, something we found really important during our travels. So, each of our gorgeous guesthouses and cottages is designed as a unique, luxurious, personal space giving you the freedom to enjoy your stay in utmost tranquility without constant interruptions.
We wanted to offer guests a space truly their own - with secluded living and sheltered decks to laze on - just the kind of holiday space we both enjoy!
Murray is a keen golfer so guests who would like to experience some of the local courses (such as Bay of Islands or Kauri Cliffs) can be sure of a game.
Anna’s interests include designing/maintaining our wonderful gardens and making jewellery which can be seen found in our gallery as well as running the Lodge and the lovely art gallery and design store we have onsite, The Little Black Gallery.
We have a wonderful team working here who make it their priority to ensure our guests love their stay here and have everything they could need.
In Kerikeri, located in the beautiful Bay of Islands, you can dip into New Zealand history, browse art galleries and enjoy fresh local produce. This is a vibrant town, full of character, charm and lots of flavour.
Some of this is centred on the wide range of artists who produce an amazing variety of artwork, often on public display. There are nationally acclaimed artists, as well as fresh new talent. Treghan has an on site gallery with art and gifts from local artists and international brands
Flavour and charm is also created by the wide variety of cafes, restaurants, and vineyards on offer as well as two exciting markets - Old Packhouse Market (Saturdays and Sundays) and the Farmers Market (Sundays).
Kerikeri is in a sightseeing paradise, with 144 islands and bays around the Bay of Islands to explore, as well as beautiful beaches, fishing, golf, sailing, horse-riding, a Kauri forest, Kauri museum, shopping, walking (several river walks), cycling, the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Rewa's Village, the Stone Store, Kemp House and other cultural and historical landmarks, to name but a few activities and places to visit. We love the diversification the area offers.
